The Lighthouse's Tale lyrics

I am a lighthouse worn by the weather and the waves
I keep my lamp lit to warn the sailors on their way
I'll tell a story, paint you a picture from my past
I was so happy but joy in this life seldom lasts

I had a keeper, he helped me warn the ships at sea
We had grown closer 'til his joy meant everything to me
And he was to marry a girl who shown with beauty and light
They loved each other, and with me watched the sunsets into nights

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never be

She'd had to leave us; my keeper, he prayed for a safe return
But when the night came, the weather to a raging storm had turned
He watched her ship fight, but in vain against the wild and terrible wind
And me so helpless, as dashed against the rocks she met her end

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never be

Then on the next day, my keeper found her washed up on the shore
He kissed her cold face, and that they'd be together soon he swore
I saw him crying, watched as he buried her in the sand
Then he climbed my tower, and off the edge of me he ran

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never be

I am a lighthouse worn by the weather and the waves
And though I'm empty I still warn the sailors on their way

the scan didn't come out too well for this one - not sure why - i tried a few times =\

This comes from Jasper... Ynys Llanddwyn or Llanddwyn Island is a small tidal island off the west coast of Anglesey, North Wales. The nearest town is Newborough.
A few are designated by the country of origin such as a Brown Egyptian or Red African leaving tremendous latitude as to what is called what.
Picture jaspers exhibit combinations of patterns (such as banding from flow or depositional patterns (from water or wind), dendritic or color variations) resulting in what appear to be scenes or images, on a cut section. Diffusion from a center produces a distinctive orbicular appearance, i.e., Leopard Skin Jasper, or linear banding from a fracture as seen in Leisegang Jasper. Healed, fragmented rock produces brecciated (broken) jasper. Examples of this can be seen at Llanddwyn Island in Wales.

This is one of my favourite bands, so it's great to see art inspired by them! (Such a shame they don't work together anymore/at the time... But have you listened the When in Rome?)

I like the rough textures and (as usually) your way to use colours boldly and at the same time gently. The rays of light affecting the mountain's wall look good, but it would be nice to see them in some lower part's too (just in a few places more, so that it wouldn't look messy). And that white circle at the lighthouse's top, is it painted there or did you paste it later? It looks a bit unnatural, because when your style of painting is relaxed, it is too clear or stiff.
That white/empty part in the painting is very stylish, it makes the painting fresh and it's a great contrast to those dark colours (it is a sad song, indeed..)

Thank you for painting this, I had nearly forgot that I have creek's music on my computer .

oh wow - thank you for this in depth comment!!

i love this band and all their songs (they are even greater in concert). i enjoy painting something inspired by a song and hoped to attempt a few more from them.

it's funny you mention the rays of light because i had a very difficult time with those! at one point in time they were lower but as i worked on another area they were effected and i had to rework them. the trouble with the way i paint is that due to the textures and such (and my lack of experience - only started painting about a year ago and i'm teaching myself as i go along) is that it's hard to manipulate little details without changing larger areas mostly because i don't plan out what i'm doing in order to minimize or prevent this. but you are correct about the top of the lighthouse - after i scanned the original i brightened a circle inside a circle trying to make it look like the source of light glowing/shining. again, that was one piece that kept getting altered as i tried to add detail to the lighthouse. i was going to crop the white off but every time i tried to find the right spot to crop i realized (imo) that it looked better to leave it there.

hehe - thank you sincerely for the feedback!! it's greatly appreciated!!

Looks like I nearly forgot to answer

Personally I think that it would look better without the circle (though I haven't seen it like that). That circle is so "perfectly" round that it is distracting: rest of the picture is so traditional, that it looks like it really shouldn't be there.
But I can comfort myself by thinking that the original is still purely traditional
