I should be putting pics of the costume i made these wings for up soon cause it's all finished!

Oh my gosh thankyou for this! I'm currently planning a Bloom cosplay and I had no idea how I was going to do the wings - this is such a big help!

Bias binding is fabric that has been cut on the bias and is usually used to see on raw edges to make it neat but it's ironed over so that it doesn't fray either

This is such a great tutorial! Although I'm a little confused with step four. What do you mean by felt? Is it like strips of stuffing? And how does it work with the fabric-outline??

thank you! Step 4 is just about doing the outline so Pick your outer fabric, which for me was a satin pink and on the inside I had a strip of felt that overlapped the outside of the wing, covering the wire The felt is just there to give a smooth surface and more defined shaped under the fabric. You can sew the felt over the edge first and then sew the fabric over the top Hope that helped, Its pretty confusing to explain xD

Thankyou for explaining!!! This really helped me understand better, it's much more simple now xD I actually couldn't follow it properly though for the wings I just made (I was planning to sew them, but my mistake on leaving the wings last minute meant I had to grab my good friend hotglue ><)
But this is definitely a great method that I'll do properly the next time I make wings, since what I've seen of yours are just amazing!

Aww. Thank you for this tutorial. I always wondered how you made your wings for your Bloom cosplays. I'm going to cosplay Bloom in her harmonix version. ^^

May I ask what guage/thickness wire you used? I know it has to be thick, but like... how thick?

xx

i honestly cant remember exactly how thick it was that i used but i'll take a look next time i go to Bunnings and I'll let you know. Pretty much get it thick enough that you can still shape

How do you attach the wings to you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jellyfire In reply to becatron [2012-11-29 07:11:59 +0000 UTC]

You can use velcro one bit on the wings and one on your costume or you can use the invisible straps for your arms but you don't have to use both but it just gives extra support if you do.

So between steps three and four you don't at all sew the fabric you've pinned? You just cover it with felt/fabric then sew that on....? Step 4 is kinda confusing for me :S

I've uploaded a new one with changes, hopefully its not as confusing
