Description
My first thoughts upon finding this piece again: "I HATE working this large!" After that, I'm pleased with how it turned out. These are the four elements represented in humanoid form. I suggested the idea to my painting instructor and he was supportive of the idea (having steered me away from fantasy before) because it sounded interesting. (little did he know I wanted to paint elementals!) He liked it in the end as well, except for the claws on the green gem guy. He said they were kinda cheesy. I like them. These four figures represent the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air. I wanted to go with the less obvious incarnations, so for earth I made him all gem-like instead of dirt-like. He could use some more work, but I'm decently happy with him now.
As for the firey guy, I went more for the molten lava look.. and since he's glowing from the inside, his nostrils should technically be glowing as well... but I didn't want to draw attention to a flaming nose so let's pretend he has a cold. XD
The water lady and the air person (turned out rather androgynous) are rather straightforward: pure water and dusty air. I guess I could have gone with ice or snow, but that would compete with the gem guy.
My husband was kind enough to pose for the gem and fire guys, and I posed for the water lady myself.
Oil on canvas, 4 feet x 4 feet (never never never again)
