Description
A dedicated pirate marauder produced by the Gaheris Syndicateβs illegal shipyards, the Reaper is designed from the ground up for function rather than form. Simplicity is the key to this vessel, with basic weapons and systems to keep costs down so that these vessels can be produced in large numbers. A spinal-mount heavy PPC is the primary forward offensive weapon, but the nastiest punch from the Reaper comes from two disruptor spinals, one in the bow and one starboard amidship. These fire in alternating pulses, hammering the target vessel with electron arrestor pulses to disrupt or disable electronics. Once the shields are down and the vessel weakened, the heavy and medium PPC turrets pick off weapons and engines to cripple and de-fang the target vessel. Then the boarding begins, using a port-side boarding collar. A larger version of the one found on the pirate Goshawks, the Reaperβs boarding collar has a rotary plasma cutter built into it that can burn through lightly-armored (20,000 HuP or less base) hull plating if no opportune airlock presents itself. The Reaper shown here has destroyed the defense turrets and damaged the command deck of a freighter that is still trying to outrun it (hence why the flame and bleeding atmosphere are sweeping back, as the freighter is still accelerating). Matching relative velocities, the Reaper is about to attempt to board the freighter via a starboard airlock. Once aboard, the pirates will rape, pillage and plunder unlike anything seen since the Barbary Coast or South China Sea.
Unbeknownst to the pirates, however, this particular freighter happens to be carrying a pair of Templars and a Garoudan mercenary aboard. Boarding is not very likely to go well for the pirates in this case...

I just gotta say I'm a big fan of this sorta understated style, both in terms of the design and the artistic aspect.

Yeah, boarding ships can be bad for the health, especially when your expecting sheep and instead end up with wolves
