Ye gods, I still have one of these (much played with, scuffed but still recognisable) with working spark gun in the chest! I had meant to restore it or at least get something similar for my son. To fix the paint as it is would be nigh on impossible these days as back when I got my tin robot they were all painted in bright lead paint colours. This brings back many memories for me, thankyou!

Thanks, I'm glad it brought back memories. I pattern them off the old toys that my parents had over seas. the old tin toys with a mechanical spring wind-up motors... i will do more when the inspiration comes up

Yep battery powered toys were a rarity in those days, for the most part it was friction drive or as you say coiled spring clockwork, besides I'd love to see them do a battery powered spark maker like my old red robot has in its chest. Looked plain wicked all wound up and let rip in a darkened room

hmm, maybe i should do some old fashion SCI-FI sparkler guns... spraying nice child friendly sparks everywhere... AHhh thoses were the days...
