Description
Well this is where all my spare time is going to these 'holidays.' This is my friend Shivendra from my phyisics class making joint to hold the axle... lemmy explaine. In my psysics class we have been 'studying' projectile motion, mostly in the form of canons and trebuchets [link] and in the course we are doing we had to build a small treb each and then do an assignment about all the forces and the physics of it. Then our teacher (for various reasons) decided to let us build one BIG treb. So now we are giving up tuesday and thursday of both weeks of our holidays to building the beast. As you can see i am documenting the process.
Thus shiv is grinding the joint that will hold the axle on which the wheels will be attached.
Most of my time is being dedicated to this thing so expect some more stuff about the treb (photos etc) mentioned soon!
Hope you like the pic
Jezza
PS Cant wait to fire it... 50kg counter weight, 3kg watermelon, 45m/s, 150m... 3.4secs... *splat*

Wow, I hope you and your camera were both wearing goggles! Love the use of macro here. Reminds me of fireworks. Awesome capture.

haha... no goggles.. i figured that the camera would be my goggles, i hid behind it ..
thing is the lense i was using (the bit taking most of the sparks) wasn't mind.. AND the sparks were hitting the front lense element, cause there wasnt a protective filter on the front woopsy
thanks a lot though

*shudders* Oh no! And I feel bad whenever I point my camera near the sun! Well, I hope there was no permanent damage (and remind me to never lend you my camera ).

nah, not a speck of dust left on the lense (probebly cause the sparks burnt it off )
dw i would never do this to UR equipment..

I wish physics class was like that for us! all we are doing is studying color spectrum and wave harmonics, very cool capture of the welding sparks, goodluck on your trebuchet sounds like a fun project.

the other class have to make their own ones, bahaha, we are gonna do that stuff next term i think.
Im glad u like the shot I had to stick an L series lens in the way of the sparks for this shot,

its a very cool effect, think id be pretty afraid to be in your position, id probably catch myself on fire, but thats why you have the L lens

lol.. its not mine that was why i was even more paranoid. i was a good boy though.. i had the safety goggles on
they are just sparks though, and they only sting for a franction of a second, and not many hit me

neither can i mate the A frames are now made and are gonna be attached soon, the counter weight box will be finished soon, then its just a matter of attaching the box and sling to the firing arm and then the arm to the A frames!
*FIRE IN THE HOLE!*

Oh, freakin' awesome shot, as well.
