Description Love this picture, did not turn out the way I wanted it though. I think it is pretty cute, a little girl looking up as if she is asking an adult for something.

Here is the glorious reference picture, I did not capture her however. The proportions of her face just didn't turn out even though I tried to capture it twice.

That's watersoluable pencil, is it? The technique is pretty good.

The way the "proportions don't turn out" is completely owed to the fact that you missed the angles of the head in relation to the eye.
Draw a line through the mouth's corners. Draw a parallel to that line through the deepest indentation of the nose's bridge. That's where a kid's eyes are located (check: the eyebrows are halfway between chin and top of the head, that's the base of the nose!).
You'll see the (from looker's view) left eye is far too high.

Whenever you're in doubt if you got the proportions right, open your drawing in photoshop (or similar), open your master as a layer, adjust them in position and size, and then keep switching between "visible layer" and "invisible layer" for the master. Everything that's not in place will start to "jump around".

In a way, yes it is off but really it is the angel of her nose which would then put that far away eye back more because less would be showing if the nose line was up more. Much less her ear is too low which makes her entire face look too big. But then again all that technical stuff makes drawing less fun to me and less natural. If I wanted a great copy I would just trace it won't I? That would be far easier. But I don't do that ever so things will be off, unless I want to cheat ;o) But yes this one is not perfect, might try it again, as for photoshop I do not believe in using computer assistance in drawing at this point.

And no they are not watersoluable pencils.

You're right, her ear is too small and low, too.
So no watersoluable pencils?

Thanks, I might try it again, this one did not capture her the way I wanted ideally. Close but still a little off.
