Glad you like it!
As far as quality goes, it's the best I can do from a flat-scanned print. I still have the original negative, but sadly have no way to currently scan said negative.
Oh, well.

Love the shot.

It was taken in Ashland County.
Auroras are very very rare in Ohio- I have seen several in this state, but most are little more than faint glowing patches in the sky. It takes some seriously massive solar activity to extend the aurora this far south with any strength.
And thanks.

It took an exposure of several minutes to record this much color and detail.
I'm glad you like it.

I love the northern lights! I've only seen them once (in real life) and it was amazing to watch. Unfortunately I live too far south to get to see them much at all.

I'm too far south to see them very often as well.
Only the really strong ones make it to mid Ohio, but this was one of them.
It wasn't quite so spectacular to the eye (amazing nonetheless) it took a few minutes of exposure to get this much detail and color.

Glad you like it. The quality kinda stinks because it's both a lo-res jpeg, and the file was flat-scanned from a print for display here. The original neg is of much higher quality.

Thanks- glad you like it.
They didn't look so fantastic to the unaided eye....still quite beautiful, but it took a pretty long film exposure to show all the detail.

Not only are you lucky to have been able to see this, but you've taken a beautiful photo too! It's one of my all time dreams to be able to see the aurora for real.

Auroras are rare around here. It requires some pretty intense solar activity for them to reach this far south. I have this aurora photo as well [link] You might like it (if you haven't already seen it).
Thanks again!

I live far enough south that they're very rarely seen around here. I've personally witnessed only four auroral displays in my life, and three of those I photographed. This one was by far the best.

35mm film, Canon Rebel TI @ 28mm on a stationary tripod, about 120 seconds of exposure on Kodak Gold 200.
Auroras this strong are an extreme rarity in Ohio. I got lucky in even noticing the display, let alone getting this shot.

The photo as a photo does not say much, but the subject is just amazing I was reading about aurorae the other day for my physics class, and I saw some images I'll never forget
It must have been great seeing an aurora live

Wow, again when the perfect moment and the right eye overtakes the need for perfect quality. I hate it that it's so grainy, but it doesn't really matter because you've got the photographer's eye. Good job!
