The two girls were conjoined in a dicephalic parapagus arrangement with Leah on the right and Payton on the left, their necks meeting at the base and connecting to a mostly normal body.

Leah referred to Payton as her best friend, despite her parents having never seen or heard of her up to that point. Payton showed confusion and distress when presented with questions about her parentage or home and neither she nor Leah had an answer as to how they had become conjoined. Future investigations into Payton's background proved fruitless. It was as though she appeared out of thin air. With no other options, the Ellis family adopted Payton.

Thirteen years later, Leah and Payton live a healthy and mostly normal life, having adapted remarkably well to sharing a body. They are very active members of their community and are working on master's degrees in engineering.
