I actually ship them to be honest.
(I still like Blossom x Brick)
So a few days ago, I was browsing though 4chan and found a thread where they talk about the character from the PPG reboot.
(Yes, I use 4chan and I do shit.)
Jared Shapiro, and the writer of the show, Jake Goldman are indeed look alike and turns people's thought that "he insert himself to become a romatic interest of a child."
This was spread from 4chan to Tumblr and other social sites.
They creeped out and accused him for being a "pedophile fanfiction writer."
I'm also one of them who creeped but I didn't much accused him since I don't have much information behind it and I almost leave the ship.
I did laugh while reading the thread replies though and they even make jokes about it. You know how 4chan works.Β
But overall, these aren't true at all. I believe that Jake is a respectful man and io9 speaks of it: This Creepy Powerpuff Girls Theory Isn't True, Thank God
So I stay on the ship and sail. XDDDDD
Not sure but I think these theory is still on 4chan but it'll be fade out soon.

Jared was actually just a cameo joke of "hahah what if he had the cartoon appearance of one of our writers" except it went too far and he stayed in the show with bad writing which made his character look worse.Β
Jake Goldman isn't a bad person, in fact I'm sure he's a nice guy. The cameo just went too far as a joke cause the writers of this show are honestly not too good with storytelling imo.Β
It also didn't help that haley wrote him in then proceeded to allow him to write and voice Jared cause that only made it look worse.Β

For me, it doesn't look cameo at all.
In my definition of cameo, it's a role where the character has appearance but no dialogue.
I'm not sure why they stated that it's supposed to be cameo.

It was confirmed in a twitter thread that Jared looking like Jake was confirmed a cameo joke like those off random times you see characters look like cartoon versions of the creators of the show. The writers specifically intended it as "hahahaha what if jared looked like jake! wouldn't that be a fun way to sneak ourselves in the show?"Β
But when he kept getting written into the show as an actual character, it came off as smug and just "hahahah we're in the show now its canon". So the one time horribly placed cameo joke became an issue with later episodes up to the point "a star is blossom" when people started putting stuff together. By that point it looked more like one of the crew trying so hard to write their own awful fanfiction of dating blossom instead of an actually clever small visual gag.Β

I agree with we're not saying this is Jake Goldman's fault or this is how he's like. But that's what this self-insert character came across as. And that where it becomes a failure on the show.
But if you don't see it that way, that's okay. We're just giving our two cents in.

Yeah. I didn't like Jared. But adding yourself as a love interest to a reboot is kind of a bad move.
While I won't say all that talk about him being a 'creepy pedo' I will say that it does seem insulting.

He's not responsible for added himself as a love interest. Infact, Jared is not Jake at all.
1. Someone else created the character and its role but not the appearance.
This is the first step of how they created the character as they stated themselves whether you believe it or not.
Aaand it's already bad since fans ship RRB X PPG.
2.Β An artist decided to use Jake's appearance since his appearance fits the character.
Whoever the artist is, I'm not sure why using other people's appearance if the character has a role on the show.
It's sounds lazy for me and not sure if the artist think deeply about the future after doing this.
3. Aaand another one thought that it would be fun if he voiced the character too.
It's not really bad if the character has the same face and voice but the problem is the character's role.
4. Jake is responsible of writing and voicing.
If you ignore 1 to 3 and only focus on 4, then it would probably look like he's responsible of the character itself -- the design, the role and the idea of voicing which making it look like a fanfic writer. Aaand focusing on 4 made it look like a self-insert character for Blossom's love interest.

Yeah. But it's a failure on the crew when you throw a self-insert for that reason.
Don't get me wrong. I can see what they were doing. A nice little joke for the show. But when you add a self-insert like that, there's going to be questions.

I think the point Jeremin is making is that "self-insert" is the wrong choice of words. Β To self-insert means to insert yourself. Β Jake Goldman did not choose, nor request, for Jared to be written into the show or even based off of him.
