Description
WB Product Art, Merlin, QUEST FOR CAMELOT. Pencil. This one was fun to do, although I knew that it wouldn't sell well on product, and the character was barely in the film. Shame. Merlin rocks. lol

Merlin was awesome! He knew Camelot would be saved. Those subtle details were over-looked; it is a shame.
Do you work big or are these small drawings?

I tend to work a bit big.Β This drawing, as I recall, was approximately 11" x 17".

That explains everything! I cannot draw small for the life of me; I'm amazed how some people can work small. Thank you. ^_^

There are advantages to working small, which I can also do.Β You save on time and materials by working smaller.Β But for the professional assignments I was given (of which this illustration was a part), it was almost necessary to work larger, as it benefits the other artists in the collaboration in preserving details.

Wow. You are a great artist to work small. So does that mean your vision is very good to able to work small?
I take great feedbackΒ to take greatly mind ofΒ from an experienced professional. Thank you. ^_^Β

No, the size at which an artist works doesn't make him or her great.Β It may demand greater patience, however.Β And being near-sighted can possibly be a benefit to working small.Β Haha!Β But in drawing comic book stories, one must often fluctuate between making expansive illustrations to those smaller details which require precision.

I stand corrected. Thank you. Yes it does, that is what I lack because I'm near sighted as well... Gotta work on my patience. Β
OH, that makes sense. That's amazing. I never knew comic book art was drawn in big sizes. *facepalm*Β

Size is just another tool for the artist to make things easier.Β Sometimes it's best to work large when the final piece is intended to be small.Β Working larger facilitates the inclusion of detail.Β On the other hand, sometimes it's best to work small when the final application will be much larger, as in the case of wall murals, posters, and billboards.Β Working smaller in the preliminary stage provides a better handle and evaluation of details which will eventually be scaled up by twice the magnitude or more.

Merlin is awesome! One of my favorite wizards. I haven't seen this movie in ages...I guess I should order it from the library so I can watch it again.
You draw him wonderfully. ^^

So sagely and dignified, but at the same time it almost seems as if he's trying to hush someone.

He is. He's casting a mesmerizing spell to make his victim stay still and quiet, so he can-- BONK him upside the head with his huge stick!

XD! I sense a somewhat theatrical spell caster. Most definitely a character of a kindred spirit to myself.

Too bad, he was amazing in that movie. And he looks amazing here--I like the overall effect of the pose and expression and wind a lot, and I adore how clean and confident your lines are. Go Merlin!

I looked through your pictures and I think that this is the very best one of them. You really have a steady hand and nice style to draw.
Too bad Merlin was not in the movie much, but this fits for his character very well.

merlin rocks - but do u mean that you worked on the movie?

Jerome-K-Moore In reply to JinxdaHalloweenQueen [2007-10-03 03:09:47 +0000 UTC]
Nope. I worked for the Marketing department, and provided art for their merchandising guides, so that companies licensing that film property could select and print the images on toys, apparel, and other junk.

Merlin is probably one of the greatest sorcerers ever, except Tim the Enchanter form holy grail he rocks.
But great pose and I like the facial expression.

Merlin, and Gandalf are my all-time favorite wizards. Then Prospero, and that fraud from Emerald City. I guess Obi-Wan was a wizard of sorts... at least Uncle Owen thought so. lol
Of course, Gandalf was modeled in part on Merlin. I prefer Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White, though. I wonder who the other three wizards were in Lord of the Rings. Tolkien only mentioned three.
