Description
HEY HEEY. I haven't posted in a while because of reasons reasons reasons, but here's what I managed to fancy-up! This is the re-make of the Victorian lineup piece I did 2 years ago.I put more thought into the way the characters would be posed and dressed. Their clothes and hairstyles are the result of a lot of digging through historical archives for reference
It's cool to look back at old work and see all the improvement that's happened since then. It makes me excited to learn more!
Just like the last lineup this one also features a bunch of my characters, but this time there's more of them!
Enjoy! You can hit the download button to appreciate the details a bit more <3

Incredible! Β There's so many characters in this one piece, it's amazing that you drew so many! Β Goodness, how long did it take you to complete this?
Also, wow, there is a lot of personality in each and every character, even the animals! Β The original was still really impressive, but in this new piece you get an even better sense of who each character is! Β Your dedication to individualizing each one is very inspiring! Β I also enjoyed seeing the backgrounds solo on tumblr, they're really pretty and compliment each row of characters very nicely *w* I still have much to learn about your characters and their stories, but I'm so looking forward to seeing more comics and illustrations of them to get to know 'em more, every single one them seems great!

This was my big summer project (to myself?)! I just checked the file I used to make this, and it says I started this on June 13th. Which means it took about 2 months to make! XD (I even had time to get massively sick somewhere in between that, so I had to take a break from this haha)
Thank you so much! I have my first animation class to thank for making that happen, I had a great teacher who helped me understand how poses work. I've been putting more effort to into poses ever since!
Thanks again! I chose buildings which I felt reflected the status of each row better. So the grand buildings went to the top row, while the simpler ones went to the bottom one.
I'm glad these characters interest you! Illustrations and comics are how I introduce and get to know them, so it's always a fun experience to share them with others.

AWWWYEEAAAHHH VICTORIAN LINEUP REDUX
I friggin' love the vast and varied cast of character you managed to come up with during all this time, Jes! : D
I'm certainly diggin' the new additions, but I must tell you that you nailed it with the dynamic poses that everyone has. No matter if they are sitting, standing up or doing some kind of chores or what, EVERY-EFFIN'-ONE seems so alive and unique in personality that I feel so proud to see that my good ol' artsy chum is capable to create these lively beings. Sure there are lots of people who may excel each one of us in technical aspects, aspects that are eventually taught and that makes it accessible to anyone at some point. But THIS stuff in these characters Jes, these grins of theirs, these looks of theirs, these movements of theirs, this sparkle of charm of theirs is some serious author stuff that is inherent to you and only to you, and it's such a good thing that you managed to got it so early in your life.
*proudly wiping man tears* ANYWAY, Popcorn and Raspberry are the most adorable lil' things outta there, Simon is a badass, Kasia always so fabulous with her radiant yet sober marksman looks (I'm already used to see her carrying a rifle yet I have no clue why I'm used to se her carrying a rifle. She makes a living out of that or something?), also glad to see the most funny competent policeman in Scotland Yard added to the permanent cast (my wish from last christmas was finally accomplished), also curious on how you gradually kept making Jona younger than Snowe and Trevor yet I think it makes it more sense for these two urchins dragging poor Jona into all kind of troubles.favin' like there were no tomorrow

JesnCin In reply to RealNoir13 [2014-08-03 13:47:55 +0000 UTC]
It has arrived!
Aaaaah thank you so much! It's great that you noticed that. I think it's true that technical mastery aside, storytelling (in any form) can expose something unique about the artist behind their creations. I see that something in your work, and I'm more than honored that you see it in mine!
Drawing cute and scary girls is my specialty
Kasia and her gun get a lot of attention :3 (She has experience firing guns. It doesn't have to do with her occupation, but she does find herself using it in desperate times!)
I was more than happy to grant the Julio Christmas wish include a more recognized character to fill the cop part of this lineup
Oh, Jona is not necessarily getting younger, but I am making him short for his age (which does make him look young!) because it fits his past as a sweep (and he was malnourished). Jona is 11, Trevor is 12, and Snowe is 13. Trevor acts out as the extroverted sorta reckless kid, whereas Snowe is introverted and unwilling to take risks outside what he's familiar with. Jona just ends up juggling in between their influences.
AWESOME

Well I really mean it!
I must assume victorian times where bursting with zombies or something because Kasia is really fond of her rifle (zombies in victorian times, that should do a cool movie).
You did well about adding the cop, he's so determined to steal the fairy cakes like no other.
About Jona, now he looks certainly younger. I rembember there was a time in which Jona, Snowe and Trevor looked all the same age. Good you can handle well those little age variations (I still can't do it quite well, you'll see sometimes my characters mystically aging or rejuvenating for no reason).

HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS WRITING A MOVIE ABOUT VICTORIAN ZOMBIES
The cop was really challenging to translate into my more serious style X) up until this point I've only ever drawn him as a cartoony and exaggerated figure, so toning him down while keeping his attitude there was interesting!
Yeah I definitely remember that time they all looked the same age Β also faces eeghh characters are always gonna be going through design transformations like some confused pokemon on an identity crisis

much profound

OH YEESS, it's here! And it looks so amazing, you did great job with all the characters - their expressions, color schemes, clothes, just everything. Not to even mention those backgrounds, they're really atmospheric~. *__*
Diversity in your character design makes this so much fun to look at! Especially adore Simon, their clothing and the beaming grin~. Not just anyone has magpie as a pet so that adds to badassery of that certain character too. Kasia holding dat shotgun is such an intriguing detail, what's going to happen??!
I'm so excited to see your improvement comparing this and your previous lineup, and can't wait to see more about these lovely victorians of yours~!
now excuse me, I'll go spend rest of the night fangirling admiring this

Thank you! I'm so relieved to have this finished
Yaaay I'm happy you like it! It was fun coming up with characteristic postures for each character- and adding a fashion sense on top of that really pushed their personalities forward
I had so much fun with Simon's design! She's inspired by some photos I came across of old-timey-tomboy-ladies dressed in dapper suits. Having pets that reflect their owners' personalities is always a plus!
Kasia's probably defending her fairycake from hungry cops
Thanks again! I really appreciate all the support

Yes, they're truly charming, and I just can't wait to see them in action!
Ohoho, I can see that! She shines through the masses with her smart fashion sense~. Love the combination of blue and red. Gotta draw her in some point too mhmm.
I hope the cop is smart enough to stay away from them cupcakes. Kasia doesn't look like anyone's gonna get past her still looking themselves.
You're very welcome, gotta adore your vision of the Victorian London~ Β

Me too! I need to get these guys out there doing things XD
Simon wants to be heard and seen
Ohoo *excited whale noises*
It's probably why the cop is looking away heroically, trying not to get tempted by the smell of fairy cakes.

HAHAH I WAS LIKE "WHOA, DID MY INBOX JUST FALL THROUGH A TIME WARP??" But, really, this is an unexpected surprise...!
Now with 50% more pets/animal sidekicks even!!
I can't say enough how much fun your designs are, and even beyond the research the colors you went with are so lively! I love how each tier has its own unified scheme.
Also. Kasia's loaded for bear suddenly. O.o I mean I guess it wouldn't have been so out of place at the time and shenanigans is always around the corner in her life but it just adds a slightly darker feel to the redux... :0

JesnCin In reply to 47ness [2014-08-03 12:30:11 +0000 UTC]
Haha, TIME WARP XD had to visit this piece eventually! Makes for a great reference and exercise on character variation
Heck yea! I'm so glad I had more animal-characters to add, though I wish I had more room to fit a dog somewhere X)Β I know we all wanted to keep the rocking horse but let's face it, he was creeping people out.
Thank you so much! That means the world to me, especially since one of the hardest things about designing historical characters and relying on old-timey photos is that they're in black and white, so the colors are up to imagination Getting each of the characters to have their own fashion sense/ taste in color was a fun thing to play with.
Haha whoops I guess I don't post gun-armed Kasia on DA very often XB I've drawn her with a rifle to hint at an aggressive side to her character (that I don't mention in my light-hearted silly comics since it would be out of place). I try to balance it out with dancing happy people :bΒ

47ness In reply to JesnCin [2014-08-03 15:27:55 +0000 UTC]
I think the colors for old-timey fashion came and went? Victorian culture was very shame-based so folks might have kept their colors muted, but things got gaudier and wilder, especially for folks who had money.
The big turning point, at least at the very top end of fashion, might have been the televised Nixon/Kennedy debate of 1960 when the entire nation subconsciously decided that plain boring dark suits were the only way to go. Part of the reason why little to no leaders wear hats, spats, cravats or beards today. At least JFK wore a top hat at his inauguration; the last president to do so. o/
OMG that rocking horse. So was it alive or what?
Hahaha, well I've seen Kasia strong-arm a harmless carnival game and activate Flamethrower Attack from her fan, but. Well. Guns = SRS BSNS.

JesnCin In reply to 47ness [2014-08-05 03:33:08 +0000 UTC]
Yeah the colors either came and went, or they were always there (at least in waistcoats, cummerbunds, fancy dressing gowns and jackets). When it came right down to choosing what the characters wore, it depended on their personality and whether they cared for conforming in the norm or to what was marketed to them.
Hurhurrr the death of hats D': I believe it was also because they started finding hats impractical to use, especially when going down crowded underground trains, where their tophats would always tip off. You know that means, I need to be the next president to wear a hat and grow a mustache \(._.)/
The horse knew the unknown
Haha even in the silly comics we still see her violent side so it seems
