Spent a good long time creating this resource in photoshop. I used reference from a variety of different sources, ranging from a variety of Official Prop-Replicas, Promotional Photographs, Technical Manuals, my own Lightsaber remote control, and Movie Stills...
...all to recreate these two versions of Luke Skywalker's lightsaber from Return of the Jedi.
It should please just about any hardcore fan, as I've taken very few artistic liberties and have left plenty of room for all the things I haven't added.
The preview is large so you can see the actual size of the graphic you're about to download.

I didn't spend much time on the blade because the focus is the saber's hilt. You won't find quality starwars stuff like this at this resolution anywhere else. Trust me, I've looked.
I know the fans because I'm one, too. So this one's free to use, redistribute, and/or modify, however you like.
I only ask that you CREDIT ME to my profile page, this account's gallery, or to this deviation.
If this one gets popular, I'd really like to try my hand at doing Vader's lightsaber, too. So fave and download if you wanna see it!!! I'll be paying attention.

As for this one, I made sure to leave everything intact on each layer---and anytime there was a layer rasterized, i was sure to leave a copy of the original.

this will be difficult for me to explain in english, because i'm lacking some specific technical terms, but it seems to me that the torch-like part on the right is a bit off the centre in comparison to the main handle.
if you take a look at the most thin part of the upper hilt you'll hopefully see what i'm talking about.
other than that this is yet another delicious and fine release from you.

Well, I've always liked the sith saber because they have force activated spikes on their blades. You think you can add one buddy?

I'd like to do a lot more of these. They were fun, and it only took me about a day (a whole day) to finish the hilt... so it's super likely that I'd do another one. If that's the case, I'd probably do Vader's lightsaber before I did any of my own creation.
But you, my friend, are more than welcome to take this PSd, mod the hell out of it, and re-release it if you don't mind crediting me for the original.

I find that very difficult to believe!
However, as a quick tip:
Just create a black silhouette in the shape you want for the spikes... copy the layer style of the silver-hilt and past it on to the spike shape. Shouldn't take much tweaking in the layer style to clean up the gradient. Then you can just duplicate the layer and put them where ever you want (after a quick rotation or two).
If I had more time, i'd certainly do it.
And hey! Can you link me to a pic of that somewhere on the net? I wanna see what that might look like on a Sith sword!!
