How do you get your wrinkles to look like wrinkles and not just cuts?

I lay plastic over top and then use sharp tools for texture.
This makes them more realistic and edges are softened
rather than sharp.

Thanks. I've been trying this technique with some success on smaller work. I guess its more about practice and patience than a secret technique.
