Description
1/4 scale Sculpey. My friend Darrel wanted to be portrayed as a gunfighterfrom around 1890. Somehow he had the patience to pose for this over a very
long period of time, sometimes taking a break for a few months.

Excellent work! I'm so impressed that you pulled off some of these textures traditionally, I can't even figure how.... The portrait and hand sculpture is all so natural and well done, too. Awesome work all around. Love the photos too, with the low angles....That's how you "shoot" a gunfighter.

Great to hear from you Trevor, I hope things are going well for you.
I'm happy you like the sculpt. I'm so slow at completing some of my
projects that I start to wonder about myself. This went on for so long that
that I almost felt like giving up on it. My poor buddy had no idea what he
was getting into when he agreed to pose for it.

Oh yeah, that must be something all artists feel. I feel very slow too, and will often question whether or not I should keep going on a personal project....I try to push that aside and just have faith in it, but it's hard. For my day-job I have to work so quickly that it's nice to get to relax more on personal work and find a solution I'm happy with. Hope everything is well with you too, and that 2019 is going to be a great one for all of us!

When it comes to portrait sculpting and realism on a
small scale it can be pretty demanding as you know.
That was part of the reason I ordered WED clay last year to
try to just have some fun and maybe speed things up a bit.
I had some fun for a couple of hours and have not used it since,
mainly because I feel like I have to finish certain projects before I
get to play around. I watch artists like Jordu Schell and wish I could
do something incredible in a afternoon. I'm pretty much the opposite
but feel like I need to try some different approaches. Take care man!

Yes, small portraits are very demanding. I know the feeling of wanting things faster. I've dealt with that my entire 'career'. I felt so slow and like I was inferior because of it...but then I realized I just have my own pace and it works out fine.....The desire for speed from some maybe comes from wanting to make a better living, financially, which I understand, but...I'm just not able to move any faster than I do. WED clay is very fun, though, for it's speed in blocking stages....I'm glad you got to try it out! I'm like you, i try to attend to my responsibilities before I have my fun time with creative work.
