Description I made a nice illustration of a Skeksis, inspired by the ones in the movie The Dark Crystal, which is a rather good old fantasy movie where all the characters are acted out using ridiculously intricate, sometimes massive puppets. The Skeksis race are particularly detailed, not just physically, but because they wear layer upon layer of bejewelled robes and trinkets.

So when I set about drawing this Skeksis, in order to make it's clothing work out, I made each piece a layer at a time on photoshop... then when it was done I felt sad that most of the work I did on the under garments couldn't be seen, so I made this showing the creative process..

enjoy~

Skek Jat's winglets and dewclaws differ from the numerous Skeksis who have (or who do not have) shoulder spines...Not winglets.

They have quadruple arms and taloned feet that do not have dewclaws.

Were they really of the same species?

Since urSkeks settled more than one world they might have diverged enough to evolve more than one species.

If they did, their urRuan counterparts would have also differed from those we saw in the movie....

-I wonder who skek Jat's urRuan counterpart was...and what he looked like.

If poor skek Jat's obsession with gold became as unhealthy as it appeared to be he could have been crushed when Gelfling saboteurs infiltrated the Crystal Chamber- and triggered an earthquake.

That is; IF his "obsession" was unaware that all that gold could buy him effective earthquake protection...and his escape off planet.

What did happen?

Did skek Jat survive?

And,if he did, where did he go?

so much work went into these layers and so little of the first few can be seen in the final piece, still a remarkably impressive project i must say, If i could do stuff like that my videogames course would be an absolute breeze

... I suppose it was a lot of work, but this was one of those pieces where you're having so much fun you don't notice it taking up time

(wish all my art was like that)

Yeah I don't really get that wave of inspiration art takes me so long to make... and I am always aware of the time... but then again I always draw while watch tv or listening to things so i can keep track of time
