Description A revisit to my "Drake" image to actually finish it. I like how this came out. Yes I do.

Go technicolor dragon!!! *flails*

(How's that for a completely *not* in depth pic description?)

Done in COLORED PENCILS

One of my friends lives in the UK, she said that Kharisma pencils are the closest thing to prismacolors.

Yo is this "black" paper really help you when you are colouring with pencial crayons?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JessicaMDouglas In reply to eternal-dreams [2004-08-05 14:07:57 +0000 UTC]

Well this one was more of a brownish black *grin* But it works for me. I like it because prismacolors are slightly translucent, so the underlaying color *will* have an effect on the colors of your pencils. Skin tones look wonderful on the purplish colors, translucent cloth looks really shimmery on black, etc.

No problem. If you go to a crafts store, or a scrapbooking store, instead of an art supply store, there will be a scrapbooking section *filled* with cardstock in all different colors. More importantly acid free card stock.

That's really important. Over time color can fade as the paper deteriorates, one way to slow that fading is to make sure it's acid free, so the paper's natural acids don't speed the process.

I'd say snag a few sheets of different colors to use.

Also if you want a clean drawing to color, snag up some transfer paper (white is usually best) to transfer your drawings on. The stuff I use is Loew Cornell Transfer paper. Its probably the best I've found, runs about $8.00 for a package of 20 sheets. 20 Sheets lasts me a couple of months (they are reusable)

Oh yeah; one last question -- do you use coloured paper for your pictures, or is the background done in coloured pencil as well? Or do you add a background colour on the computer, after the image is scanned? Your pictures always make me wish for a chance to work on coloured paper... :sigh:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JessicaMDouglas In reply to copperphoenix [2004-08-05 14:09:25 +0000 UTC]

yup, I use colored pencils. Normally I put up a bit about what colored paper I used, but I figured it was obvious here *grin* I"m completely *not* handy with computers (computer artists have my full respect, I just can't do what they do), so everything that you see is what I've done in pencils.

copperphoenix In reply to ??? [2004-08-05 10:18:07 +0000 UTC]

What can I say? It's stunning, as usual.

I've recently formulated a theory:
IF:
* it's coloured pencil art,
and
* I absolutely fall head over heels for it,
and
* it's on the front page of Deviant Art
THEN:
* it's by you.

That makes you officially my favourite coloured pencil artist -- and this is coming from a serious coloured pencil fanatic!

If you do check this out under the blacklight, can you take a picture for us? I, for one, would love to see what the results would look like.

well, I'll try. I'm not a photographer so I have no clue how to take photos like that... oh wait! My step father is a photographer! I'll just steal him for a bit *grin* Now to find a working blacklight....

I really do enjoy the picture, and the color does NOT look like pecils... looks more like pastels... Very well done with that

Now on to my goofy head:
All I can think of when I see this, is that the dragon is looking at a female dragon and going, "do you think I'm ... sesxay?" with his tail wrapped around his neck... or he's trying to hang himself 0.o...

*runs away*

*glompnuzzleluff* oh you're spiffy!! i wish my scanner would let me get that kind of sharpness to my images. it always makes them grainy. ah well. woo for the technicolor dragon!!! *happydancehappydance*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JessicaMDouglas In reply to ariafiregoddessofthe [2004-08-05 06:15:34 +0000 UTC]

I figured out that if I scan at 600 dpi, then reduce the image to 72 dpi in photoshop, it retains it's smoothness. So I don't have the grainyness problem that most low res files have.
