My entrant for TehKiah's Iron Comic Artist Contest!

Okay, so about 7-10 (I lost track of time. n_n;;; ) hours worth of work. Done in open canvas and photoshop 7 with a tablet.

My first go with a tablet in a few years, I'm proud, oh yeah!

I love how she came out! It took a lot of revisions on costume before I came up with design and angle on her personality/character. LAST MINUTE ENTRANT FOR THE WIN. I didn't think with school that I'd be able to get her in on time.

I was inspired by old 60's and 70's blacksploitation female heroes, those awesome sexy afro ladies. So I took a page from miss Foxy Brown, but tried to really really make her an updated, cool sci fi, far cousin. Hopefully she's not terrible. I just hope she reminds people of Foxy brown, not Foxy Cleopatra. I know that character was based off her, but it was still AWFUL! (sorry beyonce fans.)

I also made her sci fi, because I wanted to push my limits of storytelling and art. I'm a fantasy and humor girl at heart, Sci Fi normally isn't my "thing." SO, what better test of my skills, than something out of my usual range? Let's see how I do! ALWAYS awesome to test your limits, yo!

Backstory:
(Forgive any grammar suckings, I wrote this late at night. X( )

Nebula Brown was born on the anniversary of the funky day that man first explored the stars above, inspired by this event, the tiny tot was named accordingly.

Her parents were loving and loyal, her mother a housewife, her father an officer in the American army. He was hard working, and doted endlessly on his daughter.

Nebula grew gawky and boyish, ever tall, and strong limbed, she strived to be like her father.

So when she grew up to be a 6'3 hip sistah of pure groovy, she entered the newly formed United States Space Marines. There, she worked her way up the ranks and became a weapons specialist. She led an idealic life, proud parents, a loving high ranking boyfriend... life was good.

Then one day, Nebula Brown's life, went bad. How did such a wholesome girl, end up a space mercenary with mutated limbs? Rotten luck. Seriously rotten luck.

It started like any other day... then she had her heart broken, her court martialed and her station stripped. In the situation, she did what any woman might do, she snapped!

Like a butterfly, her long braids came down, her afro emerged and vengeance gave her groovy heart wings. After making sure her ex had something to remember her by, she fled the planet Earth and took up work at the far reaches of space on the ship the Jive Turkey.

The Jive Turkey did various jobs, but mostly scouting and salvaging old wrecks.

Sweet Neb Brown's world was about to be rocked even further, baby.

As fate would have it, she discovered an old crate in the abandoned wreckage of an alien spacecraft.

Inside, she found all sorts of rubish. Old cans, SPAM, empty Twinkie wrappers, alien skin magazines, and a shining pair of metallic gauntlets. Now, she's always been one of those curious ladies, so she tried them on.

Not groovy, kids. Not groovy.

An electric sensation exploded through her arms and that was the last thing Miss Brown remembered.

She awoke in a hospital on a planet far from where her ship was, dropped off by a human man of a description she'd never heard before.

And with one hell of a genetic makeover. She now had glowing blue arms, sporting only three fingers, and her forearms had lengthed alarmingly. The nurses said it had been spreading rapidly up from her wrists since her stay.

As for the gauntlets, they were gone. Melded into her skin.

Now, she was one street savy, hep lady, but sass and military training can only prepare you for so much. Freaky blue fingers is not one of those things.

As soon as she was able, she "commandeered" a ship, the Brown Sugar, and began to head to Earth, a place she had avoided like the plague since her embarrassment, to find the only cat who might know about what had happened to her.

Nebula was driven to hurry, because deep inside, she was beginning to feel a bit of her sexy humanity slip away every day, and something far more sinister, and alien sound in the back of her mind.

Each day, the glowing blue flesh crept up her arms.

Now, she searches the Earth, trying everything she can (Even hokey alternative spiritual cures), looking for clues, doing odd Mercenary jobs to get by...

Abilities/Powers: Military combat, ship combat, weapons expert, when someone touches the blue skin she can pick up their surface thoughts, and they receive a mildly uncomfortable electric sensation.

She cannot use her hands well, as they are not very dextrous, but she has since gained a limited ability of telekinesis, which acts like her arms, only extended about ten feet. Anywhere within a ten foot reach of her arm, she can lift and manipulate things, as if she were using her hands.

She can pick up heavier things, but it still has to be something that she can hold easily in her "hands". Her phsyical hands also must make the motions of whatever she's doing with the telekinesis. If she cant get a good 'grip' on something, she cant throw it. Example: she can lift a box, but not a blimp.

She uses this to hurl objects in a fight, and keep her oponents at a distance.

She keeps a varieties of small explosives and flash pellets in her pockets.

As for that, except for the spreading alien DNA she's a normal very shootable human woman.

Likes:
Lollipops, boxwine, Clint Eastwood movies, classic rock (which she listens to constantly on her headset. She really likes Queen.) JIVE talk, sexy men, cute kids, filet mignon, the stars, and the smell of rocket fuel.

Oddly, since her "infection" she's really started to crave raw fish with peanut butter. She tries her hardest to curb this craving.

Dislikes:
Lying Cheating Men, Long walks on the Beach, gawkers, anyone who makes fun of her arms, People with attitudes, and anyone who doesn't pay up after a job. Alien Artifacts, she really really hates alien artifacts.

Personality: Nebula is outgoing, and boisterous. She's very no nonsense, and boyish. Discliplined, and very vindictive. She does have a temper, but it takes a while to coax out. She can come across very cold. She has a very loud loud laugh. Exudes confidence in herself. (But you'd still better not make fun of her arms.)
