Description Chun li from street fighter doing the usual "bob and weave" fighter characters do instead of standing still like regular people. (Some very minor liberties taken with costume/hair design, but if you care deeply enough to be offended by that, that's your problem.)

Was mostly using her as a guinea-pig for trying out a few animation things. I've got a bad habit of *not* rotating hips at all on female characters, so this was me trying to get out of my comfort zone and loosen those up a bunch and let the body shake around like it has some actual inertia. Always a few things I'm unhappy with, but overall I think it was a net win. Very happy with how the face came out.

At some point, (maybe?) I might try doing an attack animation or two, since that's another area I've got very little practice doing.

Pretty awesome . looks a tad like she's falling over and then pulling herself back up though. maybe reversing the hand positions would help that? (so that it would be open as she goes up, closed as she goes down)

But regardless, real nice sprite with a sweet style

You honestly didn't do that bad. :3 It looks like her, and the detail you put in must have taken a lot of time. I think it's good for a first time try at hips.^ ^

Oh my gosh man, this looks great! Its completely different than any of the street fighter games style, and looks amazing as its own. Plus Chun Lis my favorite so its double awesome that she's who you used.

Yeah. Oddly, I really don't like the visual style of the early SF games, yet at the same time, *did* like (several of) the character designs.

OtOH, I *love* the spritework in street-fighter 3. Graphically, that game is amazing. The two huge points in its favor were finally using soft, mutually-consistent colors (rather than just a garish set of primaries like the early games), and also the ridiculously fluid animations.

In terms of frames/time, SF3 probably had 3x the 'normal' rate of sprite animations. Most sprite animations, including those on my videogame projects, tend to be around 10fps, because that's about where animation first becomes cleanly "smooth", and registers in the head as "an object moving" rather than a series of still poses flickering between each other.

SF3 was more towards 20-30fps. If you're wondering, movies are about 24fps, and traditional televisions only handle what's effectively 30fps (they change every other line at 60fps).

Wow, thanks for the very informative reply. XD I learned something today. I will agree with you on the whole street fighter 3 graphics being amazing. Love that game.

Looks great - the only slight issue I can see is that her hair ribbons(?) seem to move rather too much for the rest of her body - it just niggles, though, it's not a major issue. Also, I think her right lower leg is shorter than her left one, even taking foreshortening into account.

Great stuff

I actually originally drew it as the frame-one you see there, and wasn't completely sure I intended to animate it.

Why I tried to make the animation compatible with the position of the hair ribbons in frame one is beyond me. Saner minds would have just fixed their position in frame one, and been done with it.
