Description
Here's a piece of work I did for LBDNyterayn a good while back. He wanted me to make a illustration for a character he designed for a Role Play, if I recall correctly, and wanted him to reminisce Steel Massimo from Command Mission. This is what I came up with. You can see the resemblance, but it's obvious I took some liberties with it too.
Anywho, he asked if he could put this up on his DA gallery, I said fine. I didn't have it up on mine at the time, and now I finally have the time and remembered. So now this piece has twice the chance for publicity, yay!

Hmmm.... Never saw it as that, but.... I guess?

Just making a silly joke about his color scheme here. I mean, any robot with a red chest, blue legs, etc. is gonna remind others about Optimus.

You did really good! I adore how you add visible abs on his guts, yet the armor design and colour also looks awesome!!

Thank you! I'm glad you like the colors and added details. I figured the abbs should be included on such a strong character, thought Mega Man characters don't usually sport them.
Β This was a fun project, if I can recall. It was a long while ago now. ^_^

It looks amazing. And I love the lighting of the weapon.
I loved Massimo in that game. He was awesome. That and I found his brute force very helpful in certain fights.

I liked Massimo for who he was and what he did, it's usually a lot of fun to have a "brute" character in an RPG, who is there for the sole reason of just doing damage. I must have been doing many things wrong with him though, becasue as I was playing the game I constantly found him being outclassed by the other characters and ended up barely playing as him. My loss I guess.
Thank you for the comments on my art. This concept isn't mine I have to admit, it was presented to me by a friend with this idea. I've never drawn Massimo up to that point, so I thought I'd give this a try. The lighting of the weapon was a choice I thought would look best for this style of character. Usually I make energy weapons a lot brighter and have a white core, with a laser-like light saber look (it's a style I really enjoy). I tried to go for a more anime feel here, where the light had a more solid-state color and looked more uniform.

my apologies for the very late reply
I liked him too; not just because he was a bruiser, but because of his sweet personality too. Wanting be strong for others, yet he was unsure if he was cut out for such a responsibility. Actually, if you put the right amount of Build Items on him, as well as good Force Metals and get the right weapons for him (his Inceptor weapon is very helpful) he lives up to his role of the brute character. He can especially be a great tank against Element enemies if you have a Reverse Force Metal on him. I was using him for most for most of the game alongside X and Zero and I think he served me quite well.
You are welcome. For a first time doing Massimo, it's very nice as well as the lighting. I think it brings out the beauty and the intensity of it. I've always liked how they did the glowing effect of things in anime. I am certain your friend liked it?

I have to extend my apologies for my late reply as well, couldn't get back to DA as I hoped last week. D:
I want to say thanks, not only for this conversation but for the tips on putting Massimo to good work in Command Mission. I am usually such a casual gamer that I have a hard time thinking up clever tactics to make things work better in may favor; I always just go the much longer route and slug things out in RPGs, taking on enemies in whatever simplified way I can that works. XD going to have to change that I think. It's going to make my Final Fantasy marathon very boring if I do that.
Indeed, my friend seemed to like the work. I think he recalled the lighting too. XD Thanks for all your responses!

You are very welcome. I usually try to even out the Build Items to all characters so no is OP in comparison to the others. Also, if you like, there's some other tricks I learned during the game:
There are a limited amount of Build Hypers and to my knowledge, there are only 12 in the entire game, 4 of which can only be obtained in the after-game. X already has a good amount of Hyper Rounds on him (up to 6 I think), so it helps if you pump some of those into Zero and Axl--Zero because he's super powerful in his Absolute Zero state and you want him to be able to do as much damage as possible in that form; and Axl because his Hyper Mode combined with the Bait sub-weapon makes him a life-saver against tough enemies. Like Duckbill Mole and Rafflesian for example. But I guess it's completely up to you whether you think you want to use the Build Hypers on them or on another character.
That's great news. ^w^ You are welcome.

Ha, well, I didn't have all that much trouble with Rafflesian or Duckbill, but then again I'm one of those gamers who take the time to over-level if I anticipate a tough battle. I think I lost to Rafflesian once due to just testing the fight out and not taking it seriously, and I lost to the forth Tail clan member once due to a freak pattern of S.O.S and Self-Destruct that insta-killed my chars before I could blink, but I can say with honesty that I can't recall having any other difficult encounters in the game. I think I was playing very defensively the whole time though.
Yeah, I did use Build Hypers on Axl and Zero as well. I never used the Bait tactic with Axl as I didn't think of it back then, but I did want his hyper-mode to last for some reason I don't remember. I know I wanted the same for Zero for obvious reasons. I think I may have given some to Marino too. I really liked her hyper-mode as well.
Build items can actually be a drop item from certain enemies but it's extremely rare (like literally 1% rare). I am really sure I got a few of them this way. The enemies are, according to my strategy guide: B-Bladers, Bat Bones (you can get Gain Hypers from these), Bladeys, Einhmmers, Gulpfasts, Meltdowns (Gain Hypers here too), Mega Mantors, Mettaur Cures, Mettaur Counters (Gain Hypers again), Mettaur Gigant, Preon Gunners, Preon Nurses, Preon S Epsilons, Preon Soldiers, and Preon Shielders. If you wanna go for these, I think some luck boosters would be in order. Also, I've heard that you can't even steal these using Marino, so it's a luck of the draw kind of thing. Kinda sucks.
Thank you for your responses. I apologize for my late reply.

That sounds pretty similar to my style too. Every time I play the game, I always feel like I'm under-level and spend a majority of my playtime trying to gain some extra experience as well as some extra items. Though Eternal Forest in the Gaudile Laboratory is absolutely perfect for doing this. I did most of my level-gaining there, as well as getting a few extra items.
Actually, though, I ended up Gaming-Over a couple times too, though it was during my first time playing through the game and both occurrences were largely the fault of my own carelessness. The first time was to, of course, Incentas, in which I was improperly equipped and also forgot about the large surplus of Mega and Ultra Fires, Blizzards and Thunders in my inventory and again in Gaudile Laboratory when I made the mistake of trying to go through the all Red Path and ended up getting destroyed by a trio of those stupid Belladonnas because I wasn't sure how they worked. Really, there aren't too many Boss Battles in the game I can think of that are real super hard, but I guess they have the capability of being difficult if you don't know how they work or are lacking in the proper items, weapons or levels even.
Yes. I have that too. Thank goodness for that Strategy Guide; that was a huge help in clearing certain areas and not getting lost in others. Uh, the Good Luck Force Metal is a good thing to have, except it requires an Item Capture Sub-weapon to make and I think you only get two in the game: the one you got from Spider and the one you find at the end of a specific path in the Eternal Forest. If you're looking for more, I think you have to find the Gold Blader enemy that only shows up in the Northern Area of the desert, I think.
Also, don't feel bad about replying late. I seem to do that a lot with my messages as well.

Massimo was a fun character, wasn't he? Strong, but soft at heart. Rather admirable. :3
