Description
Here is my original concept armor for Mega Man X, called the Prevailer armor. It's really just an Ultimate Armor variant with some spiffy abilities.Head: I gave this part an "X-Ray scope" ability. If you've ever played Super Metroid for the SNES, you may recall that Samus eventually gained an X-Ray-like power that let her see hidden paths and items in walls and such. This armor part gives much the same capability. In addition to this, it also adds a new log in the menu screen that lists all normal and boss enemy encounter data; like what hurts it, how much punishment it takes, how much damage it deals, where you can find it, what it's called, stuff like that. A bestiary basically.
Body: Ever feel it's unfair how when you run into enemies and you take damage, but they don't? This body part fixes that. It generates what I called a " Collision Field", which damages enemies while reducing damage done to you. Also noted is that with each armor piece installed, the damage dealt in increased while the damage received is lessened. It could even take out small enemies in one touch; great for speed running!
Arms: Here we have an enhancement called a "Terrain Tear". This does what's on the tin; the X-Buster charged shot takes out special terrain and level obstacles. It stands to note that this blast is huge and does a lot of damage to enemies caught in it's wake. Additionally, this armor part adds rapid fire to normal shots as well.
Boots: The boots are the real kicker though - these add the ever useful "Spike Breaker" function, that shatters spikes and lets you walk, or climb, on them unharmed. The second practicality to these boots is that they double dash distance, both on the land and during mid-air dashing in any direction. This contributes to dash-jumping as well, enabling jumps that let X leap across huge expanses. Another useful tool for speed running, it's also great for item collecting.
So really, this armor is a combination of Shadow and Gaea armours. XD Pretty well rounded. A safe bet when wanting to explore an area.
Done a long time ago in...2008 I think. I entered this into a X Armor contest, hence it's placement in my gallery. Came in second place!

Indeed, I put this in the X9.com Armor Contest! It came in second to the Aegis design. ^_^
I'm glad you like it. I feel it holds up well today, despite being over a decade old.

Are you referring to the Ultimate armor? Because this is an original design I made that is loosely based concept-wise off the Ultimate.
I'm glad you like the rendition. I like it enough that I might end up taking another swipe at it (artistically) one day.

Thanks a bunch! This is an old concept, but I never did stop liking it. If I ever did a Mega Man X9 "box art" image, this armor is what X would be donning in it.

I love the abilities you made for the armor parts (read them in your comment below), why not list them in the description?

That is such a cool design! There's more detail on it that a standard X armor but that just adds to its charm.
This may be a silly question but what praytell are the armor's abilites? Reguardless this is going into my favs!

Oh hey! Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you like this design; it's actually quite old now in terms of concepts (I first illustrated this armour back in 2001-2002). But it's one of those things that hold up even today I guess. I can take that as a compliment.
As for it's abilities.... Gosh, it's been so long I honestly forgot! However, I did think of writing down the individual abilities for each armour part when I made this specific picture. What I wrote is the following:
Head: I gave this part an "X-Ray scope" ability. If you've ever played Super Metroid for the SNES, you may recall that Samus eventually gained an X-Ray-like power that let her see hidden paths and items in walls and such. Sounds like a good set of armor powers.
The head is/has to be my favorite, since X-Ray Scope is something I loved alot during my Super Metroid days. Also cataloguing enemy weaknesses is just a good idea, especially since the SNES armors had less than subpar powers.
The other powers are neat too. Spike breaking, reducting collision damage while hurting Mavericks, taking out terrain like in Axiom Verge AND doubling dashing distance to boot? It's solid all around and I'm happy you both repled and liked
my comment.
You're doing some great work on here. Keep up the outstanding work Jet!

Thank you very much! I'll do my best to keep producing nice stuff, although I will admit I will likely give in and make something odd or silly every once in a while, just for a break.
I'm glad you like my armor upgrade ideas. Now that I look back at them, they seem so unoriginal compared to the modern armors, but then again the newer things don't look nearly this cool, so I guess it breaks even there. Still think this armor would rock for speed running and general level exploration. Gives something to many a manner of gamer.
Really nice hearing your comments, you've given me some good conversation. Thanks for dropping by and leaving your two cents.
