Description There he stood: the Golden Ram. Many tales were told of his brilliance but nothing compared to spotting him in the flesh. His coat was a dazzling chocolate brown with honey coloured undertones, his mane flowed like the branches of an old, wise willow tree and those horns. They were like perfectly sculpted ram's horns, making it obvious where his nicknames came from.

I got off the mule that I had used to traverse the seemingly endless Russian landscape, took off my coat and took a deep breath. The unpredictable nature of a stallion was nerve wracking and I was unsure of how to handle these emotions but I pushed them back. I was determined to capture him, the king.

As if on cue, his attention snapped from his band to me. His eyes followed me as I approached him and with every step I seemed to be treading on thinner and thinner ice. I took small strides, attempting not to startle the Golden Ram. As soon as I got within 50 meters of the beautiful stallion, his ears flattened, his stance stiffened and he looked furious. A raging bull seeing red and only think about how to protect his band.

I took a step back but that did not appease the now bloodthirsty leader. He roared menacingly and I felt my body shiver. I couldn't tell if it was because of the bitterly cold wind lashing against my body or the chilling rumble of authority and danger that the Golden Ram threw at me. He reared and began to gallop forcefully towards my person. The extension of his neck with every stride made it painfully obvious that he would be ramming into me and that this isn't the first time he has done this. His confidence only grew with each stride and time slowed. His hindquarters worked so hard that his flank lowered, his muscles coiling like pythons under his glistening coat. Powerful, golden hooves thudded the ground, creating thunder beneath my feet.

The space between us was quickly closing and I covered my eyes and outstretched my hand in fear of the blow to come. My body trembled with absolute terror that the King would pummel me into the ground but there was nothing I could do so I waited. I waited and prayed that the charging Ballator, only trying to protect his band, would understand that I was no threat.
