What I did was that I vectorise it, in other words, I traced every detail of ~coyotechild 's original lineart, by using the pen tool in Illustrator, and I also colour it in Illustrator too, as per usual I used the pen tool. I always do that with some of my drawings, to give it a clean look.
I had heaps of fun in doing this piece, and I really love how comic or cartoon artist have bold shades and lines in their tradional lineart. It makes it easier to have control in tracing it in Illustrator, and for adding colours.
To someone who never done a vector art, it seems difficult in how this piece turns out, but for a pro vector artist, it seems dead easy and personally it is, but there are some minor difficulties in tracing bits that are too hard.

I love how you did this [the vectoring and coloring, of course =3]. It's so official looking, as though you could find this on the cover of some incredibly interesting comic, or even better, in front of a comic book store *w* I'd so walk in if this was there.

I used Adobe Illustrator 10 and I used the pen tool, that enables me to trace the original lineart
Before all that happens, I open a new page in Illustrator, then I place the original lineart as a template, and then I started tracing by using the pen tool
Overall all is done in Illustrator only.

Oh and don't worry about following the exact pattern of the flames on the jeans (if you do decide to use them). Or even using the shades the way I did. I want to see how YOU'D do it
