Description
The Fugue is a cheap substitute for conventional artillery. Civilian trucks – often older models considered unfit for frontline service – are fitted with crude rocket rails and used for long-range fire support. The Fugue’s name alludes partly to the “music” of its rocket salvos, and partly to the shock they induce.Design Features:
- Trucks used in this capacity are only lightly modified. Larger, lower pressure tyres improve offroad handling; simple cabin armour shields the crew from rocket exhaust, stray bullets and shell fragments; and a strengthened chassis and suspension helps support the rocket rails.
- The rails are simpler to build than large guns, have no recoil, and fire faster salvos, but are bulkier, less accurate, take longer to reload and are more vulnerable to enemy fire. Standard armament consists of 16x82mm rockets with high explosive warheads. They are not aimed at individual targets so much as wide swathes of ground, disrupting enemy advances or softening defences in preparation for a strike.
- The rockets’ initial roar becomes a high-pitched screech on descent, increasing the psychological impact of these already terrifying weapons. Fugues usually move after firing as the rockets’ smoke trails reveal their positions and expose them to counterattack. During longer engagements, efficient crews can often reload and fire from a new location, keeping enemies off balance while allies retain the initiative.
- As Fugues are also vulnerable to armoured breakthroughs, strike aircraft and saboteurs, competent commanders keep them behind their front lines and give them defensive pickets. Fugues can also be refitted with more advanced weapon systems where these are available.

I do love the fact that you've named this so very cleverly. Stalin's Organ was your inspiration, and what better instrument to play a fugue on?

I've seen you custom vehicles collection, and have to asko you have planned a support vehicle for the Fugue?I guess it would be a good idea for evacuate personnel in case of enemy attacks, since the fugue is relatively cheap and expendable.Just sabotage it and run for the hills or ,even better, left a lil "surprise gift" for enemy troops trying to capture it.

It's based on the 1951 Chevy www.lsxtv.com/news/pro-touring… but I've made a few changes (larger wheel wells, deeper body, longer chassis, rocket rails!)

Are these you're own ideas, is it part of a bigger world?
I'm intrigued. I love the idea of officially rigged vehicles, like the conflict has go on so long
it's become the normal way things are done.

FKKING KATYUSHA ON A FKKING CHEVY PICKUP TRUCK!!??!!??
At last, true love is mine!!
I want to sing the song right now in full Russian choral mode just to celebrate the sheer awesomeness of this piece. I owned a 1952 chevy pickup with a very similar body & identical grill/face to this one - my favorite classic truck design in the world. And to see it combined with one of the best, most iconic Soviet military vehicles of all time AND with a superb coating of post-apocalyptic style, not to mention the icing on the cake of a reference to the old Soviet army term of endearment for the weapon itself, the "Stalin Organ" - connecting this brilliant design with my favorite musical instrument as well. How did you manage to wrap so many of my favorite things into one package?? Why, Mister Flaxman, I doubt you could have anticipated how much I would love this piece. My joy is beyond description. I cannot favorite this enough.
Now I only wish I could reclaim my old pickup and build it into a real-life working replica of this mind-blowingly awesome artillery piece (with an overkill stereo system with which to blast brutal compositions for organ while saturating a vast battlefield with cleansing flame).

That's as good a response as any I could have hoped for! The Chevy was pure coincidence - I chose it because I like the styling. The Soviet reference was no accident, as I find the simple but effective approach the Russians often take to armaments lends itself extremely well to a post-apocalyptic world (the often desperate improvisations the Germans used to cover shortfalls have their place in the genre too).
The Fugue's name followed naturally. Something like this would be easy to build - a Sydney group called Mekanarchy completed more ambitious projects in the mid-2000s. Of course a working replica would be too much fun to be legal.

Thanks! The rust was actually the easiest part - I mostly used imported textures added in Soft Light/Multiply layers. I've got a library mostly sourced from photos I've taken over the years.

The Katyusha was my main inspiration! I find a lot of Soviet tech lends itself well to the post-apocalyptic genre - it's the simple but effective thing.

I'd envisioned 4 rear drive wheels, though 6 would be possible with a forward diff.

Technicals are another excellent source for post-apocalyptic vehicles. This one was mostly inspired by the old Soviet Katyusha.
