Description
Here are sixteen aircraft concepts for an alternative history/dieselpunk setting. All of them were made with Sculptris, an excellent 3-D modelling program which can be downloaded for free. Although Sculptris is easy to use, it is overall much better suited to modelling organic shapes, so these concepts are very rough – though they could provide a starting point for more detailed 2D or 3D work.
Most of these designs are quite conservative by genre standards, but I’d like to think this stems more from practical considerations than a lack of imagination. The functions of each are listed below:
1 Flying Boat
2 Inline Engine Fighter
3 Heavy Fighter
4 Heavy Bomber
5 High Altitude Interceptor
6 Experimental Canard Fighter
7 Night Fighter
8 Medium Bomber
9 Radial Engine Fighter
10 Nonrigid Airship
11 Rigid Airship
12 Seaplane
13 Torpedo Bomber
14 Trainer
15 Strike Aircraft
16 Heavy Transport

Awesome designs!
Check-out mine!
Interesting, in my first Dev' site, Jimbowyrick (please see), I mixed my designs with horror subjects.
Also, if you like science, check-out on YouTube, Prof Wallace Thornhill's "Electric Universe". He's a cool Aussie!

That's amazing!
I'm working on a bomber that would replace the b52 and the b2 and the b1 for the next 40 years or so... It's a 205 ft long delta-winged tailless vertical stabilizer-less drone aircraft that can hit mach 2.5 at an altitude of 130,000 ft that has a range of 13,000 km while flying at mach 1.5 and can carry 22 mach 7+ long range standoff missiles or 4 non nuclear bombs with an explosive yield of 1.5 tons of tnt and 6 defensive missiles with an advanced radar that can detect ANY object within a radius of 2000km... Rock on!!!

these are really really neat, lots of jolly nice variety too. . I never though you'd use 3d models in your work, consider you a master of the pencil line.
I too wanna delve in to 3d , do you recommend this Sculptis program? is it easy to roll with? how long did it take to get to this standard ? I might go for z brush but I also wanted something that does hard surface modelling well like sketch up.

Thanks for your thoughts! I think you'd get on well with Sculptris. I found it very easy to learn and it's even easier if you watch some how-to clips online. I picked it up in less than an hour and made all these in my first week along with a hideous Easter Bunny I haven't posted online.
I've tried a few free 3D programs - a lot of people swear by Blender, and if I gave myself a year, I just might learn to tolerate its truly awful interface - but others have gotten good results by combining Sculptris with Meshmixer, another freebie that's pretty easy to use.
When it comes to more expensive stuff I can only go on what I've heard, but Maya's apparently expensive and buggy, Cinema 4D is great if you can fork out a few grand, Zbrush is good and relatively cheap and Mudbox is a strong competitor. As Sculptris is a dumbed-down Zbrush I'm tempted to go that way - for a master of the craft run a search on Cedric Seaut. I'll never get sick of drawing though!

Nice work, and I can see a lot of your inspirations reflected in the models (#2 having the P-40's shark-mouthed radiator intake, for instance).

Thanks. I take a keen interest in history, so it's not surprising that I've used some real designs for inspiration!

Cool. Are the night fighter and medium bomber jets?
