Description
A finished project from my Principles of Visual Communication class, in which we were to trace photos of ourselves (or a friend), map out the value areas, and assign each value a specific texture following a five-stop value scale. What can I say about this project? I turned it in late and got a C+, ha ha. My teacher, Renata, wrote, Would have been A if not late. That'll learn me!
However, I did enjoy this project (much, much more than I have enjoyed other PVC projects, which typically involve cutting construction paper into intricate designs and pasting them onto bristol paper) and I do wish I hadn't turned it in late. I'd had the scatterbrained impression that we were given two weeks to work on it.
I spent a good four hours in the Student Commons finishing this thing after class got out. It was inked with Staedtler Pigment Liners (similar to Microns, but with darker ink and a tad more expensive). Not long before I left to head to The Oregonian, I got rather impatient and just drew the straight lines across Draco to finish him. No! Bad Jillian, bad! That's no way to treat a bearded dragon! ...I love him so. *grin*
FEAR MY HAT (I don't wear it often). This silly portrait was taken at Rockaway Beach's Fourth of July parade.
Anyway, there are many more personal nitpicks I have about this project (like the white out over my nose), but overall I love how it turned out, especially the hair.
Whee, I'm done!
[ P.S. : OMGYAY = absence of acne scars! ]

Oh, awesome! Congrats on getting in. I remember PVC; some of it was a chore, but I enjoyed the class overall. Thank you!
And how are you enjoying AIPD?

Oh, I like your drawing of Audrey, Shawna! It was indeed an interesting project, and it was the first I actually looked forward to in my Principles of Visual Communication class.

Wow, this is so great! Of course I clicked on it from your journal link, and it's fantastic. You have such a clean line and wonderful three dimensional intensity... and years of Brainsick shows in the accuracy and cool textures. Too bad you got mixed up on the assignment date, really too bad about that because this is so good.

Thank you, Robert! From now on, I'm going to pay close, close attention to the due dates of my projects. No more late work! I loved inking this thing, even though it softened the callous on my right middle finger to the point of being mushy, heh. Although Aban-Buil Anathema is my Brainsick-related art focus of the moment, I hope I can squeeze in a 2007 inky madness drawing as well.

Oh cool! I'm looking forward to it. Yikes! Softening calluses to the point they're mushy is a lot of inking. Heh, it's been a long time since I inked anything so heavily that it was making my fingers tired.

LOL - that was the 'heartless' callous I typed up there. Blast! It was a lot of inking, though also using an X-Acto knife to cut the drawing out didn't help, heh.

I knew from context you meant a callus on your finger. Ow with cutting too. It's hard using a knife to cut things out, if you have a tendency to press hard it can really hurt your fingers. I wouldn't have wanted to try it with my mat cutter though unless it was a straight line to cut on.

Thank you, Ellie! Ha, my expression screams "LOLWTF?" or something like that. I always have to make silly expressions when I take a picture of myself. *points to Draco* Beardie! <3
I definitely hated doing self-portraits at BR. In fact... I never actually finished one. XD

I don't have the mind for this kind of art...adding such detail and all kinds of funky designs and such. I applaud you for it though <3

Thank you! When it comes to the texture details, I used to hate stippling: now it's something I add to many of my ink drawings, particularly those relating to Brainsick. Glad you enjoyed it!

SPREAKING OF BRAINSICK...
How goes chapter 4?

JillianLambertArt In reply to doom-weasel [2007-08-28 02:51:21 +0000 UTC]
Aww, thanks! Chapter Four still has a ways to go, but I finally added a couple paragraphs (no big deal, but still progress!) a little over a week ago. Also, I decided to add excerpts from future chapters to the main body of text: in total, Brainsick has topped 22,900 words.

Wheee! I'm glad ^__^ As long as it's slowly but surely getting done, I can at least somewhat tame the raging beast within that craves more.
So what again did you say makes it a slow process to write? For myself it's just finding ideas to make pointless chatting in the story that actually makes it enjoyable to read. I can get plots and characters and certain action and gory/etc scenes planned out, but when it comes to actual dialogue and writing about things leading UP to those good scenes that will keep the reader interested...well, it's impossible.

JillianLambertArt In reply to doom-weasel [2007-09-04 01:04:34 +0000 UTC]
*grin* Perhaps this little discussion may give your beast something to gnaw on.
For me, it's kind of like this: I have many, many ideas in my head for what will happen in future chapters, but it's tying these ideas together that so frequently drives me nuts to the point I get nothing written. Sometimes, on a whim, discussions between my characters appear in my head, I write them down, and they turn out quite well. (This happened for Finch and Rant in a scene that will most likely be in Chapter Nine. Whew, thinking waaay ahead!)
My good friend Jason - ~WhiteKnight256 - has given me wonderful suggestions for smaller scenes within chapters, which is how I got Chapter Three finished after much procrastination. Likewise, ~wolfskin24 and *robertsloan2 have offered countless critiques and suggestions on where I can possibly go with my characters and plot.
Overall, though, when I learn that new readers have discovered and enjoy Brainsick, that in itself is inspiration to keep pushing forward!

I find myself facing the exact same issue .__. I have so many ideas but I can't string them together. Sure I got the big scenes figured out, but how to lead the reader on to those scenes is beyond my ability xD
Do you have MSN per chance? Or AIM? Who knows, maybe we can brainstorm together. I don't know how much help i'll be but it's always fun to try.

Yup, some of the big scenes are relatively easy, but how do I relate them to the in-between scenes?
I do have MSN! I always enjoy brainstorming with friends. Mine is simply bobbinelwick at hotmail dot com.

I didn't expect a kiriban thinger, I just saw a perfect 15000, gasped, and screenied xD But if you do want to draw me something, i'd actually love to see Doom drawn by you. Your style with all your other Brainsick characters makes me drool like mad so I can only imagine how wonderful a maniacal weasel would look in it ;o; -x-Fantasizes-x-
