Description
Gaia...mother earth, keeper of all that dwells on the surface of this planet.Just like it was with Aurora , she was created without a thought about what I wanted to do.
I love mythological characters, expecially goddesses...I guess there are more to come someday.
Gaia is one of my most beloved ones and so I'm really glad to see the outcome of the piece
It was lots and lots of work and came out to be really personal. I started yesterday around noon and finished it today (yeah I got sleep, but apart from that, not much happened )
What took the longest was her hair...its ALL painted and I really, really like how it looks. It created itself I guess...I just happened to hold the pencil
I've never painted as much digital before...I'm still stunned
It's painted with a wacom intous4s tablet
One of my fav methodes:
To work colors over the picture, I use different solid color layers that are set to diffuse glow. Play around with the colors you can choose and blend it out via a mask at places you don't want them (to get contrasts or different saturation levels). It's easy to achive a total new feeling to a picture like that.
I hope you like it...Comments and constructive critiques are welcome as always
edit: THANK YOU!!
I've never had that many favs and views before (not slightly)!
Thank you all who liked this picture and for the awesome support
second edit:
I really am sorry, but I can't thank you all in person for faving anymore...I spend more than four hours the other day doing so and I really enjoyed it, but I (still don't get I really have to say that) can't keep up anymore right now. Please don't be offended...I thank you all from the core of my being for every single viewing or faving
I'll still comment back of course

EDIT: Sorry for the watermark...I was forced to it because someone thought it to be cool to steal it. Thanks for telling me guys.
Thank you all for your support and if you really wish to have this pic without the watermark, please write me a note

Thank you so much for your wonderful critique I'm so stunned still by the audiance gaia has.
Great to hear how you think I can improve my skills I really appreciate it
Its awesome to hear, how other people see what I've created
A little explaination from my side to the hair:
It was actually ment to be that way...its supposed to be a net (slightly like a spiderweb) that has a branchy touch to it. The butterflys carry them so the tips hang loose to the ground. The contast between the hanging hair and the different angle is supposed to be that way too...I wanted to add to the weird and surreal feeling.
Great to hear you like the lightning...I worked hard on that And I'm really happy, that it seems to be right chosen.
Thank you from all of my heart for the great support I still can't get it

Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
This really is a beautiful piece. Upon seeing the thumbnail, it struck me as 'just another pretty girl in a pretty gown, but then I zoomed in and it was an amazing digital piece. The most striking thing is the dress; the fold and slight transparency of the cloth is brilliant. Some of the lighting is questionable, but the effect overall is powerful and beautiful and easily recognizable as a delicate fabric.
I understand you worked from a photo, although I think it would have been better if a different posture had been in place, her looking at the ground brings the piece down and in a more serious, sober tone that one wouldn't necessarily expect from a digital painting of mother Earth.
The creativity you took with the hair really makes this piece special, and makes it stand out from 'just another pretty girl in the forest.' The branches being carried by butterflies is not only lovely but also original and, of course, brings in that connection to nature which is imperative in something like this, but doesn't necessarily smack the viewer in the face with blatant doe, rabbits, Snow White themed obviousness. The subtlety is very nice and a breathe of fresh air, and shows a level of maturity not only to the piece but to the artist. The little glowing bits are interesting and pretty, though a little random.
The ground seems a little bland, it is after all a forest and the ground is completely empty.
The trees are beautiful and the colors are great, but I wonder what that layer is that is almost misty in the background? It seems distracting and out of place. I like the mist though, especially in the upper right corner of the piece, it really adds an element of intense realism; I feel like that part is a photo.
Overall, the simplicity really works for this because it doesn't feel empty as a whole, it combines cliche and originality well, and little details like the butterflies and hair-branches make this unique and a pleasure to look at.
May good fortune follow you, and may you continue to make beautiful work and improve by doing so. ^^

I've just been online again after two days, and totaly amazed, that I got a critique of my picture...and such a wonderful one
Thank you so much for the effort and your well chosen words.
The only thing I didn't quite understand was, that it sounds like you think the picture is a digital painting. I might be wrong with that guess, but I wanted to tell you, that it's a photomanipulation or better to say mixed media, since the hair and some other parts ARE painted, but not the whole of it.
Never the less I thank you from all of my heart for the great support
If you are still okay with your critique, I'll set it to be seen by everybody.

I tried rechecking it when one of the artists I notified sent me a note asking about it. I can't access it either. I think his profile is gone or set to private now. Most likely he finally got reported.
You're very welcome. Yeah it really gets me too. If I see stuff like that I do my best to notify because I would hope someone would do the same for me.

lg
