Description
This is my first piece submitted to Deviant so I figured I put my one of my most recent and favorites Matthias. His face, hands and feet are sculpted in Polymer Clay (a clay that bakes hard at low temperature) and he is dressed in assorted leathers and chamois. He is considered by some as an "Art Doll" and is freestanding. His candlestick, candle and flame are real and his hair is "mohair." He stands 11 inches tall. Matthias is entirely hand made (with the exception of his eyes which are glass) including his clothing, and his is poseable.Related content

I love this little guy. Your sculptures have so much life and character.
I'm an animation student, and the first thing I thought was that some of your works, especially this one, would be perfect stop-motion puppets.
Have you ever had any stop-motion experience or built puppets for stop-motion animators? Because you certainly have the talent to get into it, and it would be pretty amazing to see your sculptures come to life.

It is something I've been talking over with a couple people for about a year now, I 'd really love to do a film.. but it's one of those things where the timing has to be just right. For now I have too many responsibilities and no funding- so it's still a dream, but one I plan on doing at some point in the near future.
I'd just love to do a film.
*sigh*
I can't think of anything more fun than taking these guys to the next level and having them move...
Thanks so much for the vote of confidence!
I hope I do get to do stop motion one day.

Well, I hope one day you get the chance to work in stop motion. And until then, good luck and much success.
I'll keep admiring.

this is incredible sculpture... i love it (and i'm not the only one by the look of it). There's nothing to criticise and so much to love... one of my favourite details are his fingernails.... he's got FINGERNAILS!! He's so alive... if he was in a room with you you'd think he was alive (except for the lack of movement). Can't wait to see more stuff

hey... i think this is incredible (me and everyone else, eh?) Theres nothing to criticise and so much to love! Great sculpture... one of my favourite details are the fingernails.... hes got FINGERNAILS!! I reckon if you saw this guy in a room you'd actually think he was alive, except for the lack of movement. He's just so realistic. Makes me want to sculpt again!

I feel like this should be a daily deviation. This is the closest I've seen to a masterpiece in a long time.

Great expression of face and body posture. He has such character. This really reminds me of some of the characters out of the Labrynth. It's still very unique, but certainly has some qualities reminiscent of that movie.
Your attention to detail is amazing. It really helps bring the character to life, and things like the hole in his shoe gives the impression that there are many stories in this guy's past.

My lord...that is incredible...from the hair, to the expression formed by the wrinkles of his skin...even how he's dressed, and his pose. Are you sure yo didn't just photograph the real little guy?
I so want to have him standing on my desk as I work. I love him!

Very beautiful and expressive. Very Brian Froud-esque. This reminds me a lot of the characters from "Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth".
How long did it take you to make? What is your inspiration?

Stunning, sculpture. I've only posted one on DA and they are terribly unappriciated. This one is Jaw-droppingly well made.
The photo/lighting is also very well done. two birds with one stone
