In a rare act of chivalry, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) fighter ace, Captain Ichiban Ofeekanofee (52 confirmed victories), challenged the United States Navy's top ace, Captain James Veeblefitzer (cousin to the infamous Prof. Anton Veeblefitzer [ credited with 49 confirmed victories]) to a classic one-on-one duel, prior to the soon-to-erupt Fourth Battle of Wake Island, in this particular Veeb' alt' universe.
The pair met, as prearranged, via radio, at 35,000 feet over war-obliterated Wake Island, taking off from their respective aircraft carriers, over a hundred miles away, each.
The ensuing clash lasted for a solid twenty minutes, before fuel was exhausted, and they had to mutually withdraw.
Incredibly, both pilots failed to score a single hit on their opponent' machine.
The qualities and performances of the Grumman F6F Hellcat and the Veeblefitzer/Yokosuka D44Y-2 Super Judy were nearly identical. It was all about who the best pilot was.
