Description
The Veeblefitzer 702A "Ruumerbang" was designed by Prof. Veeblefitzer and his "Gang of Warrior Engineers" to replace the Junker's Ju-87, Ju-88, and all other ground-attack aircraft, in order to help the European Central Power Alliance (ECPA),to maintain, at least, a balance of power, in the universe that we sometimes associate with the "Luft 46 " web-site.
The craft was a simple flying singular wing design, with the crew compartment being a hollow tube affair positioned along the center axis of the whole she-bang(! Say that fast at full voice bellow).
Crew was comprised of two. One being the pilot, with the co-pilot mounted behind the pilot, who could, when necessary, scoot up into the defensive turret, armed with a single 20mm cannon, to fend off attacking enemy fighters.
The pilot, and copilot/turret gunner, could enter the craft through a large, hinged, forward, canopy hatch placed upon the right side of the craft. If an emergency bail-out was required, the pilot could leap out of the starboard canopy opening, while the copilot/gunner, if necessary, could blow the top of his glazed turret, with explosive charges, off, and bail out, hoping to not impact with the aft tail stabilizer.
Offensive armament consisted of 4 x 1,000 lb bombs, or 6 x 500 lb bombs, or 10 x 250 lb bombs, with 6 x 30mm cannon, buried in the forward position of the wing/body.
The craft was powered by 2 x Jumo-THX1138 turbo jet engines which provided the necessary thrust for this unusual craft to perform medium-range'd attacks against enemy armor'd and troop columns, with little chance of enemy fighters making successful kills.
The craft was robustly constructed with thick wooden-oak main beams and spars, covered with thin sheets of heavily lacquered
plywood, in place of sheet-metal aluminum skins.
The large fuel cells are made up of thick, rubberized, bladders, with a self-sealing capability, which insured that the craft would not explode in a fiery death for the two crewmen, when hit from enemy fire.
Several hundred of these unusual machines were produced, in the particular, and unusual, quality of the Macro-Universe, where the imagination of the artistic-creator, has, for the sole purpose of getting his lunatic creative impulses out upon an unsuspecting world...., and don't worry! I own no weapons!!! So I'm harmless!!!
(Loud Shuffling of many feet! In a chamber of white tiles, with glaring fluorescent lights, in the Creator's Eyes!!!)
(Overheard) "Nurse! Nurse! Get security! NOW! STAT!! He's awake!!!! He's awake!!!!!"
"YYAAAAA-ggggghhhhh!!!!!"
OMG!!! Another Veeblefitzer has left the building!!!
Anyway........., the craft could achieve a maximum speed of 512 mph unloaded, with a maximum speed of 410 mph fully loaded.
It's 6 30mm cannon, with armor-piercing ammo could tear apart any enemy armored column!!!
The glass forward canopy was comprised of thick "panzer-glaz" which protected the pilot from AA shrapnel bursts.
The Veeblefitzer VE-702A "Ruumerbang" proved itself to be a worthy enemy of the invading Anglo-Canadian Imperial forces, in this particular, and peculiar alt' universe.

BTW = By the way.
The reason I was laughing is because THX1138 was the name of a movie that George Lucas directed many years before he did Star Wars.

Fine machine, but I presume at this stage the backfiring gun would be remote controlled, wouldn't it? Lack of budget?

No.
The pilot and copilot sat in tandem, and if necessary, the copilot can squeeze himself into the turret to defend the craft from the rear.
