Description
Impressed with the Veeblefitzer Ve-702 Ruumerbang ground attack aircraft, the Imperial German Shitzkoph Luftwaffe Division of Aircraft Design, asked Prof. Anton Veeblefitzer to design a craft which could operate in the worst forward battlefield conditions imaginable, as a tank destroyer, to replace the fading Henschell Hs. 129 ground support aircraft.Leaping to the challenge, Prof. Veeblefitzer quickly came up with this deviation, based upon the ground-breaking achievements of the Horten Bros. Ho-229 flying wing design.
Designed to land and take off in the most miserable front-line conditions, the craft featured open fixed landing gear, equipped with sturdy solid steel attachments and tough shock absorbers. This insured that the landing gear could not be clogged up and defeated by mud and turf.
The craft was powered by two JumoTHX-1138 turbojets, and was capable of achieving 420mph unloaded.
Faster speeds were not possible due to the fact that the craft was basically a heavily armored flying tank.
The pilot was protected by sheet steel armor and heavy bullet-proof glass.
Also, the frame was composed of thick beams and runners made of sold oak wood. And the fuel bladders were thick heavy self-sealing units.
Armament was 6 x 37mm Bordkanon (!) and a skilled pilot could knock-out dozens of enemy tanks with quick well placed bursts in a single mission.
The craft, nicknamed the "Flying Brick" (note the unit logo on the fuselage front) was not loved by its pilots, who found it difficult to maneuver at low speeds, as it was so heavy, but they respected its toughness, as it could withstand significant damage and still keep flying.
This machine was instrumental in driving back, past the Ural Mountains, the evil Mongolian Horde Imperial Army, in this particular alt universe.
Pictured is Major Heinz Ketchup, standing next to his brand new Ve-712 "Flying Brick". The craft, once deployed to the front, quickly became filthy, and took on a battered appearance from many enemy flak hits. A pilot was lucky to see his mount last 15 missions, before it was so damaged and had to be retired for recycling.

This looks and also probably flies amazing... until you rip off the rudder trying to take off

Nahh!
Rudder's as strong as the rest of the craft.
Big problem is that there's no rear defense from attacking fighters.
A few cannon rounds up the tail pipe, and WHOOSH!

Such a nice aircraft! I love the cannons, and the design is lovely! The Horton's flying wing is nice, but Prof. Veeblefitzer knows how to kick it up a notch!
Great landing gear, very sturdy, very shock-absorbent. Nice engines, very cool to see a fast attack (empty!) plane
Great to see the aircraft protects the pilot... as a famous pilot myself, I find that most important!
Solid oak(!) beams, and heavy self-sealing tanks... overbuilt, especially with the thick armor and heavy glass But hey... if it can fly, it's all good!
6 x 37mm BordKanon! Amazing armaments! I would love to play with them sometime... shooting ground targets is a favorite of mine!
Low speed maneuvers are no good anyway, it's high-speed for me Toughness is very good, but only 15 missions? Those Evil Mongolian Horde Imperial Army aircraft must be amazingly strong!

Thanks.
Yeah. The life of German aircraft on the Eastern Front was pretty short, even in our universe.
The jet engines were lucky to last for 6 hours, before needing major repair, or just be recycled.

That's what fine German engineering did... it made beautiful aircraft that fell out of the sky if you sneezed too hard!
The Russian planes were flying tractors and could run on vodka and piss, but they flew until you blew them to bits.

Come on "Shitzkoph", this is not very nice. Also, in an Alt Universe Imperial German Flying Corps the individual combat units would have much moe flamboyant names: "3rd Eastprussian Heavy Air Ulan Regiment Princess Marie Sophie of Denmark Nr. 5". And it would be Gruppenkommodore Major Carl-Friedrich Freiherr von Reitz zu Reitzenstein auf Tichowa. Pour le Merite, Schwarzer Adlerorden, EK I im Stahlenkranz mit Diamanten, Ehrenritter des Königsreichs Sachsen.
But a very nice plane nonetheless.

Well, she should have changed this even before marrying. Anyway I presume the Prof has some variants of this fine plane in development. Like the c version with the reversed schräge musik twin 8.8 pak. Or the d naval version with the 28cm cruiser buster?

The Germans just need more time to make a more powerful jet engine then they would be able to rule the world!

Whaaaat? Is perfectly good cludge-tech?
What's wrong with trying to bolt an internal combustion engine onto jet turbine and then squirting fuel at the resulting combined franken-motor?

Just in MY universe, the Jumo THX1138 Turbo jet works better!
So....., THERE!!!!
