Notes:
Use VrayEdgeTex for rounded edges.
Use VrayCompTex for multiple bump maps.
Use VrayZdepth for DoF.
Use Oily texture in reflect slot for greasy, used look.

Ahhh... the italian M93R, a legendary semi-auto/auto (well, at least as burst mode) but unfortunately forgotten by the world Specials Forces... anyways, nice picture of it!

I could look it up, but I'd like to ask what is with that part on the trigger?  What is that and what does it do?

Shaders look brilliant, metal is like metal and wood is wood, imperfection and worn effect is also right on, but it's a bit too bumpie. Lessen the bumping on textures, otherwise it looks awesome and realistic, just take the bump down and you're golden!

I was always in two minds about the 93. Sure, they look the bidness, but they're just too damned awkward to fire accurately, and they're too expensive. I'd always go for the micro-uzi, or even MP-5.

But, as stated, they look awesome, and you've done a fansatic job capturing that!

Wow, nice! What's that thing attached to the trigger guard underneath the barrel, though?

Cheers! Its a handle for extra grip when firing in full auto:

This a real gun? Even if it is (I prefer fictional sci-fi guns) it looks effing amazing. I wish I had your modeling skills!

Hey, I'm wondering something. Do you do requests/commissions? Because me and *ReneAugustus were designing this one gun over the past couple of weeks, and I for one would really like to see it made into a 3D model. You don't have to, though.

jimficker In reply to Great-5 [2011-02-19 23:06:33 +0000 UTC]

Cheers!

What kind of gun? Always wanted to do another sci-fi gun, but my concepts arent nearly as interesting as some of the ones Ive seen on devart.

Great-5 In reply to jimficker [2011-02-19 23:13:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, the gun in question is the IX4 thermal projector rifle. It fires superheated slugs of tungsten oxide, heated by a microwave effect.

Here are some pictures of it:
[link] - The original, crappy design of mine (which lacks a thumbhole and as such would be very awkward to use)
[link] - Rene's version which is sleeker and more efficient-looking
[link] - A rough sketch of my final design, which combines attributes of both designs.

What do you think?

Don't work from any of these just yet, because the two of us are working on a final drawing of it which will really show how it'll go.

The gun under the final design in the third link looks interesting, I like its sleek, rounded look.
The original design looks a bit cliche if im gunna be honest, especially the fn2000 inspired handle, personally I prefer Rene's re-design.
But the concept shows promise, and I like the style of you're n rene's other work.

Ah. It's still not done though, and thanks for the comment about the currently-unnamed rounded gun.

Im looking forward to seeing your final design, let me know what you guys come up with.

Great-5 In reply to jimficker [2011-02-20 00:46:39 +0000 UTC]

The final design will probably look quite a bit like the third drawing (the gun above the sleek rounded one that you like) only it'll be in color and have MUCH cleaner lines.

Maybe a little less deep bump on the silide and the handle? But it's still awesome One of my favourite guns ever.

Those deep groves are my old modeling skills, the whole model needs a bit of an overhaul really, its a bit of a mess underneath all the vray rendering xD
