Description
Here I am Blocking in a dark area after I have it sketched in. To get it super black... I am using a soft charcoal pencil first, to pre-stain the paper before I lay down the Graphite.usually I go around the edges first making clean hard edges not lines. one thing I was taught as a teen in art class was..."there are no lines!!! only transitions between light and dark areas. now they are either smooth blended transitions (shading), or hard transitions like in this example. To be extremely accurate I use a mechanical pencil with an HB or 2b lead to "cut the lines in which is crutial to make a sharp photorealistic drawing. I almost always start with the darkest areas first. If they are too dark, It's ok... you can lighten it with erasers. You will get to know your kneeded eraser better then your bestfreind.
If the area you are blocking in is a straight line, the use that ruler... there is no rule in drawing that says you can't, as a matter of fact... there are no rules whaen it comes to drawing. There are general practices, but feel free to experiment. That is how I have pumped up my skills... EXPERIMENT.
