When I am overlaying Graphite over Charcoal, I tilt my drawing so that I can see the sheen in the paper, otherwise It is hard to see where you have complete coverage. I dont know if you can see or not, but I go over the area I am darkening in small ovals in many directions over and over, ensuring that the tooth of the paper is comletely smoothed down with color.
