Description 'ordered what to do'...is that grammatically correct? Is it redundant?

i went a little crazy with the bruises.

also, the Joker looks way more like Heath than usual here. Maybe it's cos I finally watched the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus?

wow, i'm not even that much of a batman fan (i enjoyed the movies of course, and watched my fair share of the cartoons over the years), certainly not a joker fangirl, yet this comic has definitely caught my interest! all of the poses are so dynamic, and the dialogue so believable. i also really like the color palette.

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you like it! The thing is, I'm not even much of a Joker fangirl...I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the guy. A lot of the themes that were introduced in the Dark Knight sort of weren't developed enough for my satisfaction, and I think that's what got my gears turning for this comic. Though I always intended to use it for practice so I could do my own thing eventually. ANYWAY, thanks!

true, there were some great themes in the dark knight. i haven't watched it lately, but my understanding is that they want *you* to think about the themes more, and, you did! so, it worked!

This is an amazing story. Very well conceived and developed. I also like the art. Not comical, not realistic. A beautiful combination of both worlds and very good work with the resemblance. Also keeping all characters consistent in each panel is hard but you did it very well.
Only one thing...where is page 28? Couldnt find it for the life of me.

Anyways, please continue, I will be watching this story.

Jimothy-Bobert In reply to Jokerlady [2010-06-12 00:07:33 +0000 UTC]

Page 28 became a 'chapter break' page...it's more like a cover painting. I suppose I counted it as a page.

Anyway, thanks so much for reading the comic, I'm very happy that you like it! Yes, keeping characters consistent is hard...something I agonize over, so it's encouraging to know I'm not as terrible at it as I think I am. Eeek!

It'll be another week or so til the next post but I'll begin posting more regularly soon.

Thanks again for all the kind comments.

That was a really interesting read! I could see this being made into a full-length movie, if it weren’t for the actor’s death and the fact that Batman always hogs the spotlight.

Why does our Joker care if his new doctor signs his cast? Does he like something about her now? (I'm not suggesting he's touched by her concern, but maybe he gets her point?)
And, she signs in purple! Yay! I love purple!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jimothy-Bobert In reply to LovedPurpleAngelWife [2010-05-08 02:18:20 +0000 UTC]

I think he thought the demand would intimidate her, because she'd be in grabbing-breaking range. She probably shouldn't do it, she REALLY should be afraid, but she does it. It's sort of like a test to see if she's being honest with him or not. Like, 'is this woman stupid enough to actually care?' But since she just pretty much called herself stupid, he doesn't have many options. So he sort of gives her a physical dare, and she takes him up on it.

"Ordered what to do" sounds fine. The bruises are cool. It figures that a guy like Mistah J would have them all over the place, lol. And he does look a lot more like Heath, which is nice. I think I like his facial expression when he's like "Sign my cast" the best. I giggled at the inspecting-his-nails bit. I like Deidre's handwriting. It's neat, yet not girly with all the loopiness either.

Jimothy-Bobert In reply to JokersOnlyFear [2010-05-06 23:40:46 +0000 UTC]

Yay, thanks, glad you like it!

After the beating that Batman threw him in TDK, he would be a puffy-faced bruised disaster. That sort of thing slightly annoys me in movies even though, duh, it's fiction. Realistically, he'd have bruises everywhere. Not to mention whiplash (he flipped over in a 16 wheeler, for gods sake), concussion, probably a broken ankle from Batman's little lasso thing.

I like drawing bruises.

JokersOnlyFear In reply to Jimothy-Bobert [2010-05-07 00:34:30 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

Yeah. I forgot about the semi truck part! I really need to go watch TDK again, like right now. But sadly, it's still a school night, though it doesn't feel like it for some reason. I'd never thought about those grapple-lasso things being strong enough to break your ankle.

Really? I couldn't tell you liked drawing bruises. It wasn't apparent at all. You don't seem to like talking about them in-depth either.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jimothy-Bobert In reply to JokersOnlyFear [2010-05-07 04:41:14 +0000 UTC]

Honestly? The way the purple fades to blotches of burgundy and navy, with hints of lavender...the little red specks of ruptured capillaries, and later, the green-yellow tinge? Honestly I can't believe...oh...oh, wait. Sarcasm.

Well, huh, I dunno if that lasso thing could REALLY break your ankle...but being stopped suddenly by a rope tied to single limb whilst falling simply cannot be good for you. And I don't imagine Bats using bungee cords, let alone designing anything with 'slack' to it. Even the word 'slack' probably makes him want to punch things.

If you seriously hadn't caught on to that... I don't know what I would've done, lol. And I can definitely see that you're obsessed now. You can make bruises sound pretty, which is kind of weird, but still awesome. I need to figure out to find a way to add that to my talents of description lol.

Yeah, it wouldn't be good for you at all. "Even the word 'slack' probably makes him want to punch things" lol I agree.

It's often hard for me to write a review right after reading because each page keeps sending my mind into a tailspin from its sheer brilliance and beauty, but here goes:

I really feel as if I'm right there in the room with them, physically sitting across from the Joker. Your characters and art just jump right off the page.

I'd been waiting with bated breathe to see how the Joker would respond to the doctor's last comment, and he deflected it beautifully, much better than I even imagined. "Sign my cast." Lovely.

My favorite panel has to be the third one. I love his glower. You're one of the few people I've seen who can convey how dangerous he really is, even when sitting still.

It's funny, I've seen so many terrible characterizations that try to make the Joker "human" and only end up turning him into a neutered kitten, while you've stuck with a portrayal that's entirely in-character and realistic, and yet it pierces something in my heart where all others have failed.

And I'm sorry I keep brining this up over and over, but I LOVE that doctor. I never expected to see an Arkham story that didn't only feature staff that we're supposed to hate more than the villains themselves.

Oh my...you're very kind.

I wonder if some lines in the movie were added after Heath died or if the river scene was originally so 'eternal youth in death'-themed. It definitely was strange to watch...I'd been avoiding it b/c it's like, the last LAST acting he ever did. I know film is eternal and whatnot, but I have trouble coming to grips with the tangible loss of a person from the world, the end of their senses. I guess I looked up to Heath b/c he seemed to be a well-adjusted bloke, down-to-earth (not a celebrity diva), and a dedicated and talented actor. His death sort of just reinforced my suspicion that the world is going crazy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

norringtons-wench In reply to Jimothy-Bobert [2010-05-06 00:40:59 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean. His death was a low blow, and I'm still at a loss. I watch his films, and I just feel slightly empty inside. It's strange to see him there, so alive... but in the back of your mind, you know he's gone. It's like a light went out in the world, and it's a darker place now.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jimothy-Bobert In reply to norringtons-wench [2010-05-06 01:53:38 +0000 UTC]

"Still at a loss"...exactly. I think most people don't allow themselves to acknowledge that empty feeling, out of a natural fear of death. But for whatever reason, call it a morbid streak or a result of my experiences, I dwell in feeling empty, willingly at times...I guess I'm trying to find meaning in a void. Also, I thought it would be interesting to make a Batman comic with a positive message.

... is is a good thing?! Some of the earlier pages (or certain things therein) need serious fixin. After I finish this chapter I'm going to go back and make stuff look less lame. My mom, of all people, wants me to get it printed just so there's a hardcopy (for when the solar flares hit, or the EMP bombs go off...y'know). My mom seems to think it's important for my fancomic to survive, LOL. I wouldn't want the children of the post-apocalypse to think that the crotch of the guard is drawn funny. God, life is so pointless, lol!

awww, thanks!

even though i'm not planning on getting into the specifics of the Joker's history, i think we can pretty confidently assume that something horrible happened to him. He's always been a sorta tragic figure.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LovedPurpleAngelWife In reply to Jimothy-Bobert [2010-05-07 16:54:53 +0000 UTC]

I doesn't matter exactly what happened to him, anyway. The damage is the same for every abused child that grows up. They're programmed, they don't know they are, or how extensive it is, and they try to make sense out of their screwed-up perspectives on life. The trick is to get them to de-program themselves.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jimothy-Bobert In reply to LovedPurpleAngelWife [2010-05-08 02:48:04 +0000 UTC]

I agree. Of course, not everyone who has been abused turns into a 'psycho', so there must be some innate means of coping that some have and others don't. But, no, the programming doesn't just go away if it's never confronted. How can you get someone to realize they've been programmed? Some people have lost the capacity to trust to such an extent that any attempt at 'illuminating' the situation will look like another attempt at programming (the subconscious prohibits trusting, to protect from more suffering).
