HAH. i am so beyond pleased to see this fanart. i was pissed off with that comic, there is so very much that is utterly baffling in terms of character and plot developments... i could barely believe that anybody could take for granted that what zuko had told aang after an upsetting visit to his FATHER, who is good at screwing with his mind, in PRISON, to be a 'promise' made in his 'clearest mind', and... i feel like the author fast-forwarded through pretty much all of season 3. that is the only explanation. i mean, obviously in canon they make up later and build republic city together blah blah - wait, actually, that future development is even MORE baffling on the back of aang's complete obliviousness (and, yes, selfishness) in the new comic. who are these people?

I just read the leaked pages yesterday... this scene provoked MANY FEELINGS OF ILL WILL TO THE AVATAR SPIRIT!
And then the scenes after that were just... wtf? I was under the impression that Aang was, you know, a pacifist. Seeing as he, I don't know, _let Ozai live_ And yet he is all for killing Zuko without even talking about if first(why does nobody talk about it? Because then there wouldn't be a plot. The OOC is all in the name of plot development). And then Toph and Sokka were _completely nonchalant_ when given the news that Aang almost killed him. GAAH!
At least Mai, Suki, and Ty Lee can see sense. Well, maybe Suki and Ty haven't been informed of the whole 'breaking of the treaty that was a bad idea in the first place' thing. But Suki has a good head on her shoulders, so it'll probably be alright(of course, I thought that Toph and Sokka were sane as well, but _apparently not_).
Also, where is Iroh during all this? Shouldn't Zuko be asking for _his_ advice, rather than his psychotic father's? Idiot. Who's idea was it to put the fate of the world in the hands of a bunch of teenagers, anyways?
I read your annotated pages, by the way. They're really awesome, especially for someone who knows next to nothing about Chinese culture. Hopefully you were right about the reference to the Boxer Rebellion, and the creators knew it was a bad move from the start.
/end rant

/I was under the impression that Aang was, you know, a pacifist. / That is one of the parts that get me too. He had issues killing Ozai and now that totally okay to do to a friend? TBH it would have made more sense to ask Katara to do it. She has no pacifist issues.
/Well, maybe Suki and Ty haven't been informed of the whole 'breaking of the treaty that was a bad idea in the first place' thing./ Or maybe they have the sense to see that some treaties need to be broken because the current situation/development makes it necessary. Not everyone sees the world in back and white.
/Also, where is Iroh during all this? / He better be getting Ursa. If he's 'busy' playing teahouse then ffs stop being an avoidant idiot.

That's what I keep saying? WTF is Iroh!?! I mean, God, he leaves his 16-year-old nephew to run a nation that just eluded itself into a hundred years of war, the whole world absolutely detests, and that has to completely rebuild itself and its foreign relations ALONE? I mean if Iroh really wants his dream teashop so badly, he could you know, open one in the Fire Nation? Hello? And omg, I want to kill Aang in this he's being SUCH a hypocrite, promising to kill him was one thing, but then ACTUALLY almost doing it because he /touched/ Katara and cancelled the hope and change, unicorn and rainbows Barack Obama movement? WTF. And NO ONE cares about Zuko's life either, even if Aang wasn't the one doing the potential killing (which only makes this fact WORSE) none of his supposed friends care about Zuko's life. At all. Toph, Sokka, Katara, none of them. They're like...whatever. Aang wouldn't kill Mr. Genocidal Maniac, but is totally cool with "ending" his buddy Sifu Hotman...? WTF. And Zuko...went to Ozai for advice...why not just write a suicide note right there???!!? WHY DIDN'T HE ASK IROH WTF? My guess is that Ursa is going to show up just in time to straighten her little boy out. And, dude, that would be epic if Iroh came in one day and was like "surpriseee" and Ursa was there ahaha. It would also be convenient for the plot so that Zuko wouldn't have to go on a mission for her to show up again. Anyway, LOVE this picture it made me lol so hard.

To Sokka's defense, he does not know about the nearly killing, and he does give Zuko the benefit of the doubt.
And Suki does stick with Zuko, so at least she's still his friend. Hopefully Sokka joins them.
I, too, hope that Iroh comes back with Ursa. He'd better.

Haha, good one Roku sometimes pisses me off, like whole this "promise to kill me" situation. And it's not even the worst thing - the worst thing is that when Aang meets Zuko in Yu Dao he wants to kill him and he doesn't just because Katara stops him - at least that's what I can tell by looking at the leaked pages. I mean, WTF? Aang would never even think about killing Zuko, he's his friend, his family, just as Toph and Sokka are. IMO he made that stupid promise just because he thought that Zuko turning bad again is impossible. And suddenly he goes Avatar State and wants to kill Sifu Hotman. It's completely OOC for me.
...I talk too much.

I know, right? And have you seen the description of what will happen in "The Promise part 3"? It's on Dark Horse's facebook page. It's just... ugh. It seems like Gene Yang completely ignored all the character development Zuko has, especially in the second season of the show. Well, I hope it will be better than it seems.
Thank you for the watch BTW

I read the leaked pages too. I am making an annotated version of them, explaining some of the Chinese history they are drawing from.
You will be very happy to hear that Aang is beyond wrong with his Harmony movement.

Well, it's not like it was his idea, it has to be done, besides he's still just a kid AND he's a nomad, so it's hard for him to see the problem for now, especially if first colonies which moved back to the Fire Nation were happy about it.
When Zuko saw the problem he should've talk with Aang about it instead of isolating from everyone and having tea parties with Ozai.
I don't want to judge the comics unless I read all three parts, it was just this one scene for now which made me "WTF?!", because seriously, friendship between Aang and Zuko was essential for the show and now it seems like it doesn't really matter for them in the comic. But we don't have all the pages so we'll see in February how it really is.
The only thing we know for sure is that at the end Aang and Zuko will found the United Republic together, so they will certainly solve the problem of the colonies. I just hope they will do that as BFFs. If not, it will be just so frickin' sad and bitter.

I think that will be one of the plot points i.e. Aang standing up for what he knows is right, not what others (in this case Roku or Zuko) want him to do.
I disagree with Aang's assessment over the FN people being happy to be back home. For one he seems really oblivious to the distress of the people who are with him on Appa, second, the only other FN reaction we see is the girl trying to kill Zuko over this issue. This makes me think that Aang's opinion here is not trustworthy.
/I don't want to judge the comics unless I read all three parts, it was just this one scene for now which made me "WTF?!", because seriously, friendship between Aang and Zuko was essential for the show /
This makes me so sad, too. I don't want them to stop being friends. I do not care that much about the shipping, but the friendships were damn important to me. *sniff*

I guess that we have to wait for February (2 months, this waiting will kill me) to see other colonies' reactions, maybe some of them were happy, who knows? But you're right, Aang was pretty oblivious...
One more thing I'm worried about is the project of the third volume's cover in which Aang is in the Avatar State, surrounded by elements just like he was during the battle with Ozai. I mean... they won't do that trick again, right?... Please, someone tell me they won't...
Now I just want these comics to focus on relationship between Aang and Zuko, so whole this "killing Zuko because he grabbed Katara" stuff would make sense to me. For the love of Momo, Aang cared about Zuko even when he chased the Gaang all over the world, even after he admitted that he sent an assasin after them. And now they're finally friends and Aang's suddenly willing to kill Zuko, now that makes perfect sense, sure.
Mr Yang, please, don't ruin my perfect bromance
And for Roku... I really feel for poor Zuko, because Roku's now just another person from his biological family who wants to kill him.

I think, since it is portraying him like Ozai, it is supposed to show that he's in the wrong.
