Eventually James and Sirius had to pay for their bullies, by having his son/Godson get bullied instead of themselves, which is far worse revenge than getting directly revenged maybe.
Many people argue that both Marauders and Snape were equally bad, and OK I understand that, but where is a good explanation for that!? There is no depict showing Snape attacking James for no reason, or how James stopped being arrogant. Nothing in the book! And whatever people say, it is undeniable that it was always one against four.
Hmm, after reading this scene, elements given to readers to imagine is not enough to fully accept Lily choosing James eventually. Seeing Sirius's attitude toward Snape in Order of Phenix, he is clearly not feeling regret for bullying Snape: this leads me to think that James had not been either even if he was alive...
But there's just one hope: If James had never grown to feel even a bit of regret, I think he would have vaunt to everyone how he had taken Lily away from Snape. However he never did, kept silent about Lily and Snape's relationships, even to Sirius and Lupin who were always with him. It is possible that James felt a bit of regret, maybe even wished to apologize to Snape, but was too embarrassed to do so and decided not to say anything about it.
