CAPSTAANG WEEK, DAY ONE:
12/7 CONJURED CONFIDENCE WALKS THE SIDEWALK

His breath now breathes unfulfilment
Which for a moment he just pushes aside

It's getting old now
It's getting old now
It's getting old...

------

"I'm so sorry I wasn't there. So, so sorry."

"It's okay," she said without emphasis, shifting her thighs beneath the hard press of his elbows and forearms. "Stop kicking yourself. Or should I do it for you? It doesn't take more than one leg to do THAT."

Don't apologize, is what she wanted to say; You're not the one who's at fault.

But that wouldn't have made any difference to him, really. Maybe he'd just gotten used to shouldering the blame.

//"I'm sorry I wasn't here. I'm sorry I ran away." "I'm sorry." //

Even now the lightness of her left side weirded her out. Felt like there should be a foot somewhere, dangling invisibly from the bandaged stump.

Aang being here helped, though. The way he leaned into her, without caring that she was less than whole... He balanced her out with the weight of his tears.

Cry me a river, Aang. Maybe it'll wash away this stupid guilt you have, and drain you dry.

...Actually, you're not even SUPPOSED to be the one who's crying.

---
Don't call me when your moods are properly balanced
'cause I was there now for the worst part of this

This was it, then, wasn't it? ...the end of the line. No more Earthbending battles, no more adrenaline rush or hard-won respect. No more Greatest Earthbender Ever.

Anyone who looked at her now would see nothing but a poor little gimp girl, blind and crippled -- sitting here with the Avatar sobbing on her knees.

---
I twitch and cling to these,
these images that I foresee
I jump at any noise that the night,
the night it brings

"I never thought this would happen," Aang mumbled through the fabric of her lap. "Never, in a hundred years..."

Neither did I, Twinkletoes, she thought, staring sightlessly ahead into the emptiness of her future.

...Neither did I.

Conjured confidence walks the sidewalk
Holding its breath as it all passes by
You know, as it all passes by...

I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna hear it anymore...

---

FIN.

[Sorry for the lapslock and massive Taangst. First time doing this Week, and frankly, all caps would have made it hard to read. Please tell me if this is wrong though, so I may change it in the future.]

[Also, Toph's current feelings stem from a sense of despair, which is probably to be expected after suffering such a grave injury. Thus, her view of the future is not exactly rosy and optimistic at the moment. But she'll get better.]

You could also have it that Sokka had already gone back for the meteor to make another sword. But he gives up the material for Toph's leg as there's only enough for one.

It took me a few seconds to realise Toph was missing a leg. Poor thing!

Nice dramatic piece though.

Ah, the torture I put them through. My terrible, terrible mind. (it's all out of love though, I swear)

Ee, you're right... I think I made the bottom half of both of them a little too short. Ooh, that's probably not comfy...

Thankies, though. ^^
