Ah, well, this is me in a nutshell.

This kinda reminds me of when Wile E. Coyote....
when one of his many antics to trap the roadrunner has failed
and a giant rock is falling on it's way directly on top of him.
At which point, he too pulls out an umbrella, albeit far more diminutive,
in a hopeless gripping fear that it will somehow act as an affective barrier
and shield him from the crushing weight of said rock.

Or a trap door holding up a pile of rocks that fail to fall after he springs it. And while poking it with a long stick, the rocks slowly start to fall when the realization hits him, before the rocks do. And he holds up a sign that reads "In heaven's name, what am I doing?"
