Hey Crispin!  So good to hear from you again.  What the hell have you been up to? 
You're way too kind with your words. 
I am working on this portrait as I take a break to respond. 
It's been a couple of years since I last did a pencil portrait or any kind of drawing lately. 

I dabbled with pastel pencils and intend to explore them down the road.  
These are the only pastel pieces I've drawn.  The Walt Whitman didn't turn out so well because I tried to use the same paper I use for graphite drawings.
I still prefer graphite over pastel.

Hi Jim,

Always a pleasure to hear from you, for someone who has not drawn in 2 years, you certainly haven't lost your touch!

I like those pastel drawings, for first attempts they are pretty good! From what I remember you like smooth paper, pastel pencils work better on paper with more tooth to build up the layers with.

To cut a long story short I got stalked by a very mental unhinged neighbor, it took over 2 years out of my life, and it went to court in March. 
I have recently moved and to a nice well lit flat, so I will be drawing a lot - watch this space!
