Description 18" x 24" Stabilo CarbOthello Pastel Pencils

It has been close to 25 years since I last worked in color and this is my first attempt with drawing a portrait in pastel.  I feel like I used the wrong paper as I used the same paper I use to draw graphite portraits, bristol smooth paper.  I would have liked to have used some soft pastel sticks to cover broader areas.  I couldn't justify spending a couple hundred dollars on sticks until I felt that I had a better understanding of how to use them.  I'm still not comfortable with when to lay down darks and lights but fumbled through it OK.  Any suggestions on working in pastel would be more than welcome.  Cheers and thanks for watching!
