A brief history of this country:
Before the CS:
1840: Yucatan and Rio Grande are helped in their fight for independence by Texas
1848: Yucatan, Texas, Rio Grande join the US along with Sonora, Chihuahua, New Mexico, California, and Baja California
1850: The Compromise of 1850 splits California in two at the 37° N mark

1864: Cleburne's Memorial is adopted, and slaves who enlist and serve out the war are given their freedom. In practice, though, the army takes them only if the master frees them. This takes the wind out of the US's moral superiority sails. Sherman is stopped outside Atlanta; Lincoln is reelected with the capture of Havana and the fall of East Point outside Atlanta. Grant comes south to take personal command but is stopped by Cleburne and Johnston.
1865: The Confederate States win independence from the United States, in part by emancipation of slaves per Patrick Cleburne's memo receiving Robert E Lee's support in front of President Davis. Black Confederate veterans use their wages to purchase the freedom of their families.
1870: The CS buy the Dominican Republic as the Territory of St Dominic; the emancipation bills in various states mean children born on/after 1-1-1870 are free and not slaves. Compensated Emancipation begins. The last slave will be freed by 1874, years before Brazil and other nations end their slavery. Without Reconstruction, there is no segregation, no KKK, no Jim Crow laws.
1898: Spanish-Confederate War: A brief war started by the bombing of a CSS Alabama in San Juan Harbor, ending with CS ownership of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines
1904: the CS sell the Philippines to the US for $14 million
1915: CS agree to sell $20 million worth of food and materials to the British in exchange for the British Virgin Islands
1917: CS buy the Danish Virgin Islands for $23 million CSD, merging them with the British Virgin Islands
1919: Per the Treaty of Versailles, the CS gained the territory of French Guiana; in agreement for cancellation of British war debts with the Confederates, and payment of several million, the Confederates gain ownership of the Bahamas and Bermuda. The US gained Guadeloupe and Martinique; the Netherlands the entirely of St Martin and St Barts. Turkey cedes Constantinople and its Aegean coast to Greece.
1945: CS agree along with the US, USSR, UK, and Germany on a postwar order; Italy gains the Savoys, Nice, and Corsica, and retains its Carthage African territory; Germany gains Briey and Belfort; Spain gains Roussillon; Basque territory becomes independent from Spain and France; Brittany is made an autonomous region with guaranteed internal autonomy, linguistic freedom, and independence referenda every 10 years; Poland unfortunately is divided between the USSR and the west, creating an Iron Curtain around Europe.
