Description So, in order for me to get a job in the american animation industry, I need to have a style that's not SUPER anime. Using one of my favorite artists, , I developed a style that possesses my usual style but simplifies it so that it could be seen in American animation (psst, check out Endling's gallery. He's amazing. Hasn't posted for a while but I highly recommend you watch him if you currently aren't).

Does that mean I'm killing my Tetsuya Style? No. But I won't be doing it as much since I need to develop this style more.

I hope you guys stay along as I evolve into an artist even further. I love you guys

PS Inspirations of the style also came from The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra art direction. Hope you can kind of tell.

PPS My first time trying to think of the character in 3d rather than 2d. I got to say, it's tough but fun.

Changing/upping/developing your style is a long process. But it starts off with a simple question: Am I happy with where I am? Alot of my favorite artists keep pushing themselves to improve on things that they are weak at, whether that be their actual style or something technical like anatomy, environments, etc. etc. So first ask yourself, are you happy with where you're at right now at this time.

Usually the answer is "no" unless you're the world's greatest artist or just conceited and ignorant xD. After that, then comes the long, eye gouging work. Start by looking at all your favorite artists or your favorite pieces by them or favorite characters. Then, COPY it. You're probably going, "What the fu--?" Don't worry, you're only studying. Some college courses actually have you imitate an existing masterpiece to learn from it like process and technique. Same thing applies when you copy another person's style. You're studying it. Finding out what you like about and what makes it so appealing. Just make sure you don't claim it as your own.

If you search kenshingumi559 on google in the image section, you'll see some of my old work and how I would recreate or imitate various styles. Why? 1. I liked the styles and 2. I was studying. Though it pains me to look back at my lack of creativity, I'm glad to have done that back then. Else, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am today.

After studying all the styles you want, take the things you like and merge them with yourself. John Mayer put it this way: When you try to imitate another person, part of yourself actually shows because you can't 100% imitate them. Basically, you're going to automatically put your heart into it subconsciously because you replace what you can't replicate with yourself. Thus, you create your style.

Anyways, hope this helps you out somehow. Good luck in developing your style. Let me know how it goes. Seriously

yeah i've heard that before, funny though that never gave me the motivation to draw more then i do and that's probably why i'm not improving :/ I think it has something to do with the fact I hate how it looks so i never wanna try but that's just a sorry excuse now isn't it.

and I looked at some of your old stuff like you said and i can still tell that it's still you even though it's older, i think that's cool

I think this was a good style for you to start transitioning to. =] It's different from your old style but still keeps the anime-inspired flavor of your old one. But this one would be something a more general American audience would be more accepting of.

Honestly, as you continue this year and into next year, you're probably going to start developing a style that's totally your own without even realizing it. =]

Another thing: I know you were talking to me about digital painting before, I think. Or we had some discussion about it. I think the way you did this is a good way to start. It's simple, and still relies a lot on line quality, but from here you can go far because you are showing that you can grasp the concept that a whole painting can first be broken down into SIMPLE, blocked out light and shadow, and from there you will be able to build and evolve and get more complicated. And one day those black lines could even disappear, and then maybe you decide you like them in a certain way stylistically, and just change the way you do them to fit a more painted style.

But this is good to for an animation character ref sheet that needs to be kept simple. =]

I like where your stuff is going! (And I love his pants and shoes.)

Lol sorry long comment is long. >.>

Don't worry. I love long comments :3 I hope my style develops with this as the base from now on. I'm having more fun with characters with this style now

I'm sure it will! Even if you're not thinking of it. If you keep drawing as much as you do, it can just happen on its own. c:

This style suits you well. I can see the fusion of the Nomura shapes and the Endling colors.
I'm looking forward for the evolution of this style shift!
