Not exactly a huge departure for Superman, but here me out. For me, this is all about embracing what makes these characters iconic, and in alot of ways, Supes really is THE classic super hero. The cape, the undies, the chiseled jaw and unwavering devotion to justice... he does it all. To me, changing up his costume to be more "practical" or "modern" is pointless.
So what did I do? Well, first of all, I tried to give his suit a little bit of dimension and texture, so that he didn't just look like a nude man painted blue and red. That meant rendering his booties a little more realistically, and trying to really depict the stretch and pull of that kind of bulk. Speaking of his physique, I really felt that Supes is at his best when he is just a towering block of justice, so I REALLY beefed him up with a kind of lovable chubby muscle. His expression had to be pleasant, sincere, and maybe just a little pandering, because I think of Superman as kind of the ultimate good neighbor; he may not have your problems, but he'll listen to yours and help out as best he can, even if he thinks you're a nut and might not like you all that much personally. Finally, the skin tone. Supes is from outer space, so no particular nation or race can really claim him, but since he's allegedly powered by the sun's rays, I thought giving him a little color would make sense.

At the end of the day, it was important for me that Superman had a kind of quaint charm about him, and I think these slightly goofy, probably homemade threads get that across.
