Description
Although obsolete with the advent of the much larger and powerful Heracles-class battleship, the Spartan heavy frigate is still used in the core worlds of the League and is a popular vessel among the Separatist states. The ship has strong armour, a full brace of naval autocannons and a pair of medium-grade ion cannons in the nose, along with several torpedo tubes and anti-aircraft guns. Aditionally, it has a hangar with capacity for about 48 fighters and 12 dropships, with a few smaller sized work vessels.
With the arrival of the Telakai and their much dreaded Starblade-class battleships, the Spartan finds itself hopelessly outclassed in a straight up battle, but it can still give a good acount of itself against Telakai fighters and support vessels.

The ship's hull is 450 meters long, 90 meters wide, and 90 meters tall with 35m tall 'conning towers' if you will. It has a mass of 68,598,290 tons with a hull volume of 3,802,300 m^3. Armor is 5m thick and uses advanced composite instead of regular ceramics or metal armor.
Has a crew of fifty, shielded by a quantum energy barrier, has an ECM suite (that is based off of Legends of the Galactic Heroes' Electronic Counter Wave Measures with the WMG of Battletech's ship 'ECM' being not only ECM units but also cross-spectrum holographic decoys) with cross-spectrum, multi-band sensors, and a creation-engine type nano-forge for ammo replenishment.
It's shuttle bay (which doesn't mount fighters due to how small the ship is making it impossible to store them) has a shuttle, a hull repair unit, and an asteroid miner. It also has two mining drones and two large-scale repair drones (with hundreds of smaller scale drones for touch-up work).
It's powered by a series of Quark fusion and antimatter reaction ('reflex furnace' (i.e. near 100% reaction with 75% energy efficiency) variant) reactors and propelled with an inertia damped antimatter enhanced plasma torch/Photon reaction drive hybrid with a secondary plasma torch in case the primary engine is disabled.
It's equipped with an Alexander-Heinlein Fold Drive and an Interplanetary Drive (for use within the hyper-limit of a system).
The armament includes:
4x twin light capital neutron cannons
4x twin light UV-V laser cannons
4x twin 230mm light capital linear cannons (LC-23s) [fires 150kilo rounds at .005c every 10 seconds]
48x quad 100mm linear automatic cannon (LAC)-10s [fires 30 kilo rounds at 40km/s]
48x Electro-Plasma UV-B particle ADS (think PD) lasers
2x 4-tube light capital missile banks
4x 16-tube ADS missile banks
2x 6-tube light capital torpedo banks
4x 300mm fusion bolt cannons
4x light energy shell cannons
Crew: fifty
Top STL speed: 50 gravities
Top FTL speed: 20 ly/h
Max Range: 1400 lightyears

Jesus Christ! Anything else?
You gave a lot of info on the details, but a lot of it can only be seen up close and personal. How did you envisioned its shape? Any distinctive features, like an exposed bridge (not recommended...), a retractable landing pad, a brace of retractable cannons, jutting nacells like the Enterprise, a little pirate flag? Give me something to work here!
And at 450m the ship isnΒ΄t small. It could feature fighters just fine. There are aircraft carriers out there which are smaller in length (such as the Nimitz) and can carry as much as 90 fighters! Your ship can carry a few as well, so donΒ΄t be shy! After all, when designing a warship such as the one you did, one must go all out! If youΒ΄re going to fight, clash!

MisterArtMaster101 In reply to JMonteiro [2013-03-05 20:27:05 +0000 UTC]
Actually, the reason there are no fighters is because fighters are at least 30m long and something like 15-20m wide... with the average being 50m long and 25-30m wide. Each.
The shuttles and drones are actually pushing it. Not to mention the only reason fighters are so big is that they require enough protection against enemy ADS fire. Shielding isn't small and armor has to be thick and add things like E-War packages then things get stuffed in there. Plus its not a battlestar type, that goes to the bigger ships like the Orion class frigate. Light Frigates are only for light patrol/fleet picket work.
The ship is particularly from the ISO Spaceship line of thought, with a curved fore end. Small thrusters for maneuvering thrusters all across the ship, with a battery of 6 engine nozzles in the back for the primary engines and 4 for the secondary engines.
Basically its a giant box with a front curve and with two conning towers loaded with secondary active sensor electronics and even a few chaff arrays for pesky missiles. The top one is exactly at the middle of the ship while the bottom one is slightly towards the rear.
The parts of the ship that are for the crew are deep in the core of the ship, the only section that has a weapon vulnerability is the shuttle bay.

Good. Now just to make it clear, the guns are ventral/dorsal and the missile banks are on the sides with torpedoes fitted on the front. ADS is generally fitted for overlapping fire.

Well, this is the kind of job that requires a lot of work. ThereΒ΄s contracts, subcontracts, raw materials, power plants, electronics, weapons, ammo for the weapons, workers to build it all up, food to keep them alive and a healthy dosage of videogames and porn to keep them happy, plus housing, clothing, cleaning...
Logistics alone will take a month!

Hi there! IΒ΄m still working on it. Unfortunately, I donΒ΄t live off this stuff and my real job demands a lot of my time, leaving me very little to spare on a work IΒ΄m basically doing pro bono, so COOL IT!
Seriously though, while I was looking through your notes I got stuck on many potential designs, but IΒ΄m not sure if IΒ΄m going in the right direction. So, IΒ΄ve posted two pages-worth of sketches in my scrapbook ([link] and [link] ) that IΒ΄ve done recently. Now, keep in mind theyΒ΄re all templates for the actual work, not finished ideas. Nothing is built of titanium alloys yet! I need your input so you can tell me which one fits what you had envisioned or if a bit of a ship can be combine with a bit of another to fit your desired result. Let me know, so I can then go to full production with the design options you like best!

Model Five in the template 2 is pretty good as a baseline IMHO.

I like this, and the style in very similar to what I call my "industrial starship" designs. A functional dedicated warship with little in the way of whimsical or artistic design elements. I kind of want to make a Scetchup version of it. If you wouldn't mind.

My own design, for use in a story IΒ΄m making.
A vast majority of the Galaxy is under League rule, but the outer worlds have decided to go independent on them, and as everybody was bracing up for an ugly civil war, the Telaki arrive, more than willing to kick everyone into line.
The Spartan was a mainstay from the Galatic
League Navy, but is becoming increasingly outdated with the creation of bigger and stronger ships. Still, it stands to reason that many Spartan frigates were stationed in frontier worlds when they decided went rogue, and pressed into service along the Separatist forces.
More ships to follow!
