How smooth is bristol board? Is it smoother than the generic paper that's found on art pads?
This piece is gorgeous, as always. The wings are so wonderfully done, so colourful and vibrant, and the detail is stunning.
I have no idea how you manage the patience to create these. I usually leave off a project when I get bored.

I would recommend buying Bristol bord in single sheets as you can buy different thicknesses for whichever best suits your media of choice! I use 300gram paper, but you can also get 600 and 900gram thicknesses, which are good if you use a lot of acrylic and oil...stops the paper from creasing. I saw another artists work on bristol and the colours were vibrant and stunning. The surface is very smooth and is excellent if you want to use pencils alone or in mixed media( which I use) The colours seem to glow much more than ordinary pads... Hope that helped a little...
Thanks for your kind words!

It helps a lot. Thanks. I think I can only buy them in pads at the craft store I go to, but I'll definitely have to try it out and see what happens.
So far I've only been using the sheets of slightly-thicker-than-artpad-paper and artpad paper that my art teacher has been supplying.
I've also been finding that even though I'm careful in my colouring methods, any texture still tends to show if I don't apply the pencil HARD (and I can't do that in good conscience - I like for my things to last for a long, long time).

Thanks! I left the wings to last and I had to make them stand out somehow...painting brightly seemed the solution!
