Description Corebook artwork for Endless Realms , a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.

The art director asked for an illustration to go with the section on traveling in ER - she requested (from left to right) a Dengu foraging (probably a Knight or Peacemaker ), an Al'miren checking a star chart (probably a Weaver ), and a human tending to the campfire (almost certainly an Elementalist ).

I love the magic being used for a campfire, makes it feel realer to me that someone with magic would have mundane ways to use it.

Thanks :3  And yeah, with how useful magic is, I'd like to think mages find ways to incorporate it into their daily lives to make it easier - at least, provided they live in a world where magic can be used that way.  In some settings, I'm sure magic is too complicated/challenging to use that way.

Yeah, in settings where magic requires human sacrifices to work using it for mundane things instantly makes you a villain, which I've seen done before. But when I made my character for the DnD campaign I'm in I took some magic just because of how useful it is in role play and mundane situations.

LTo be honest, in d&d I will rarely use spells frivolously, since I only get so many of them a day and the campaign we're running is generally under a time constraint.  like, if we happen across something that constitutes a "quest," we'll typically need to deal with it ASAP - the longer it's not solved, the actively worse it gets, so just wasting my daily spells on for fun stuff isn't very practical.

However, in the story/world I've written, magic is much more second-nature to those who can use it.  For instance, there's one scene where two characters are out in the wild, and she's cooking some food for them over a fire using a hot stone - she flips it telekinetically (since they don't have any cooking utensils), and when it's done, she manipulates the energy in the rock so she can just pick the hot stone right out of the fire and gives it to her buddy so he won't burn himself on it :b

That sounds cool, but what I was talking about was the Prestidigitation cantrip. So I can use that sucker as much as I want. And I'm planning on using it to get around unnecessary conflict when we have more important things to deal with. Some drunk jerk comes into the tavern demanding we get him high end drinks while we're discussing on important quest? Boom the cheap stuff tastes even better than what he wanted and my bard can pick his pockets as he's passed out as reimbursement for the trouble.

Thank you   I've certainly been given enough materials to get a lot of practice in, anyway
