The Al'Miren, the eldest race, created by the goddess of Order and Chaos in their image.
The Dengu, an industrious race particularly passionate about treasure hunting.
The humans, defined by their extraordinary versatility and variability.
The Kalamir, forbidden spawn of angels and demons exiled to the mortal plane.
The Sileans, a tough, proud matriarchal people.
The Skidi, a bold, charismatic race full of mischief.
The Ulvar Kyr, rugged honour-bound warriors from the highest snowy peaks.
The Ventelli, a solitary, predatory race known for their grace and cunning.

Did you name the Yakshi that on purpose or is that just a coincidence? If it was on purpose you shoulda given them large breasts and wide hips like a fertility goddess, but then again that's an interesting take. gives the impression that the Hindi people considered them nature spirits because they literally are part of the fauna lol.Β

I wasn't responsible for the lore or naming, but I believe the person who DID name them named them this way on purpose, although the rest of the team remained unaware of this until the name had already "stuck" as it were.

I notice they've completely avoided standard fantasy races like Elves or Dwarves. It'll be interesting to see how each race manifests the typical traits (for example, Dengu seem to be a mix of Dwarves and Gnomes while Sileans look like intelligent Orcs)
I really like the design of the Ulvyr Kyr but the ones that really caught my eye were the Yakshi!

*nods* Yeah, I think it was fairly important to them to do their best to come up with more original or convention-breaking race concepts, but still have market appeal
*chuckles* Yes, I think Dengu as "Dwarf/Gnome" mix isn't too far off - they are obsessed with treasure, and are hard-working and industrious as well as tough and hardy.Β The Sileans, on the other hand, are much more tribal/shamanic, so if anything, they're more like the original shamanic orcs from Warcraft's Draenor, but less warlike - they're basically the "Native American" race Β Ulvar Kyr are basically just giant furry Dwarf/Orcs, all about honour and glory, stoic and utilitarian, and being tough enough to survive the north.Β Yakshi are... well, plants
Β Probably the most alien race, sort almost hive-mind/part of the planet - they were all born from the planet's World Tree

Interesting thing I notice: all races have their names capitalized (such as "The Dengu"), but humans are not (as "The humans").
Is that intentional?
By the way, nice portrayal of races in short but sweet sentences.

Not really - at the time, I think the developers tended to capitalise the names of other races but not humans, so I think I was just mimicking that. Β I'm not actually on the development team, so whatever I say is prone to be changed later on :b
Also, thanks! Β Previously, the writer had tended to want to introduce concepts like races and classes with short stories, but I suggested "short but sweet summaries" was a better way to start sections, moving the short stories to later in the write-ups so new players can figure out what's going on faster.

if i were to start playing this game i would probably pick either Dengu or Yakshi, mainly because of the shear uniqueness in there design. I have never been able to play this type of game before, but the concept has always interested me .

Its more the freedom in the game play and the possibility's in how you can create your own character.
It seams like it would make it feel more personal.

Ahh, yeah.Β Well, the developers have tried to design the game so any race/class combo is doable, since races don't have stat modifiers like they do in many other systems.

Thanks Β It was the main goal of the development team, which ended up being an interesting challenge, having to balance "approachable humanoids that aren't dwarves/elves/gnomes" with a variety of more exotic ones.

As a Silean i would choose to make a messenger, always on the run to deliver one important message after the other (or bring packages, get important stuff from person x and so on). I think they could travel really far and since they are also good in fighting it would be rather save as well.
As a yakshi i would choose to be a gardener. As a little backstory, maybe he was in charge of the garden of a wealthy merchant. But when he meditated, the merchant got killt and the family had to flee. No one remembered waking him and so he meditated for some years. (He would have the drawback of a deep sleeper.) Afterwards he would have to search for a new place for him in the world.
(I still like the idea of insects swarming around them, while communicating with pheromones. )

Oh, that's awesome! *chortles*Β Haven't picked out my specific character yet.Β Most often I base it on the kind of game I'll be in, tho usually it's some form of rogue/monk/mystic/acrobat type. (Two of my favorite characters I've played; one was a fighter/thief/acrobat, the other was a mystic - both in the D&D realms.)
