Description Corebook artwork for Endless Realms , a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.

This illustration was intended to pair with the corebook explanation of the Vices & Virtues system featured in Endless Realms in lieu of alignments (although they aren't mutually exclusive!) - the art director thought a disagreement in a tavern might be the perfect example: here we have an irritable Kalamir confronting a stubbornly diplomatic Dengu.

It's a male (The males are all supposed to be rather on the "bishi" side :b) - Ah, I see what you mean now!  That's the tip of his far horn sticking out from the other side of his head :b

*Gigglefits*  T'ain't nothin' so disconcerting, and/or infuriating, as an opponent who refuses to argue back!

Love the expressiveness of both characters; faces and body language is very eloquent!  Also, the textures & colours are well done.

Haha, yup :b  Or, more generally speaking, a person who doesn't seem at all bothered or upset by your anger/threats :b  When I was little and used to fight with my sister as little kids tend to, she used to laugh every time I got genuinely angry, pat me on the head, and tell me I was adorable >_<

Thank you kindly, it's appreciated

So I'm guessing there are listed and example flaws and virtues the characters can pick from and can add their own? My question is is there a mechanical aspect to them, or are they strictly roleplay, and are there any that are both?

jocarra In reply to Nerdberon [2016-05-10 00:01:55 +0000 UTC]

Yes, basically.  I believe any time the vice/virtue comes up in the game, your character will need to make an active will save to do anything other than what their vice/virtue dictates.  Like, if you take a vice that is, I dunno, "foul-mouthed," but you need to impress a noble and get them on your side, you'd have to make a Will save to not be a rude cussing dick to them :b  Or if you're helpful as a virtue, you might have to make an active will save to not get side-tracked helping every ailing citizen you come across.  Something like that, I think?

I thought ways those could both be turned on their heads actually. Instead of being rude and crass to said noble you be eloquent and rude to them saying something that would come out of the mouth of the child of George R. R. Martin and Shakespeare. Which if the court is anything like Orlias in Dragon Age may be even better then what you had originally planned. And Helpful could devolve into trying to end suffering by some totalitarian method like... well that would be a long list, or simply killing people who are in pain, like those angels that have the barrel filled with blood and tears on their back. By the way those guys are creepy.

It makes you think of a scene from a movie/book/story you know.

It makes you think of how your parents look when they argue :V

You mourn the loss of horned dude's beer.

You ask about the Vice/Virtue system mentioned in the description.

Lots of things you could say Obviously not a requirement, though!  Just find it curious every time someone makes the effort to comment just to say "nothing to say" :V X3

*chuckles* I was more talking about real mead, which I think isn't particularly harder to make than beer or wine :b  Regardless, difficulty in making alcohol has never stopped people from making a crapton of it
