Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms , a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.More dream realm creature concepts - this one is pretty self-explanatory, and basically works like a psionic black hole surrounded by a dangerous whirlwind of highly reactive chaos energy. I imagine it's typically not visible in this form, but instead creates a seductive tugging force that compels the minds of those nearby to draw nearer, threatening to consume their minds the closer they get, and could be potentially harnessed by less ethical mages to drive foes mad, or draw out the souls of victims, leaving hollow vessels to fill later. Perhaps it was created by an overambitious chaos mage who lost control of their power, or perhaps it is a naturally occurring phenomenon in the dream realm?

What passes for sentience in the dream realms? I know that certain plants give off alluring scents to entice prey but is there more to it? Dream physics can be so wonky, I'd think, plus the prospect of a psionic vortex that talks is just frightening enough for me to believe it's real.

I'm not even sure if this thing will be sentient, really - maybe just a sort of combination of pyschic fragments and emotions and stuff it's sucked in? But yeah, the dream realm is directly related to chaos magic, and chaos magic is strongly related to emotion and illusion, so I imagined it would be all mind-trickery and compulsion.

Well, not this exactly, but it sure reminds me of it XD It's basically a vortex from hell that creates the sound of a million wailing damned souls and the closer it gets, the more...depressed and despairing the victim feels.

How do you even fight that? The only thing I can think of that would be effective against a chaos vortex is a concentrated blast of Order magic and I don't even know if it works that way.

Haha, yeah, I don't know XD My job here was to just come up with some usable concepts, but it's up to the team to actually figure out what to do with them 
I'm working on a number of other dream realm creatures - it's possible one of them has the ability to control, counter or stop one, so you'd have to tame one of those first maybe?
